Tapping technique question:

I am a bass player of two years and I just recently incorporated tapping into my playing style.

When hammering notes with my left hand, (I am right handed btw), I hold the neck and hit the notes as I would fret them. However, when I do so I am unable to get notes that are as loud and as resonant as the notes I hit with my right hand. That's a given, of course, the right hand gains more momentum till it hits the strings.

Are there any exercises or methods you guys have used to overcome this challenge? I understand my left hand fingers will get stronger with time, but I want to hear what you have to say.

Also, any helpful resources on tapping and the likes are greatly appreciated. And yes, I am aware of the search tool, it just didn't turn up any helpful results, which is why I am posting.

no you're right. the best thing to do is practice. the more you practice, the stronger your left hand will get, you'll find that your control will improve and the coordination between both hands will develop. you can add some compression. that will even out the difference between loud and soft sounds, but ultimately it is better if you can get that kind of control with out compression. check out jonas hellborg and his style of slapping.
