I'm not sure if you guys already mentioned or not but: Two hours after the tattoo is done, clean it with regular antibacterial soap (that orangy/goldish stuff) and pat it dry with a clean piece of white paper towel. A regular dish cloth or face cloth has fibres in it which are like magnets to fresh tats. Then the rest is the same as everybody else said, use A+D ointment as soon as you are done patting dry your tat for the first time and every six hours after. Along with neosporin and vaseline, never ever ever ever use bacitracin. Hope this helped, good luck with your tat.

all 4 that i have, i treated them pretty much the same. a few hours after it was done, i used mild soap, warm water and bare fingers to wash it, gently. apply a&d ointment in a thinnish layer. repeat 3 or 4 times a day (as time allows) for a few days (i usually do 3 days worth). after that, good quality hand lotion several times per day (again as time allows) for another week or so, give or take.

no soaking for at least a week, no scrubbing either. if you're going to wash it, use warm (not hot) water, mild soap and your bare fingers.

Kinda off topic but I have some questions.

I'm looking to get my first tattoo in September when I turn 18, and I have no clue as to where to go . Any advice on finding a good, reliable , clean artist?

Depending on location, a tattoo shop cannot be open unless they are licenced. You have every right to question the artist about their licences and the way the shop is run. Don't go to a shop you feel is unsafe, should be self explanitory. A great way to find a good shop is usually on the internet. A shop with a website is a good thing. Also, make sure you see if the shop does only appointments, walk-ins, or both. If they are willing to take a walk-in (especially for a big project) you can pretty much guess that they don't get much buisiness and are probably not a very reperatable place. (Did I spell that right?) That's not always the case, but take notice anyway. Lastly, always ask the artist to view their portfolio.

Mine goes:

an hour after tattoo, take off clingfilm/bandage, wash with warm/hot water and soap, dab dry. I dab dry with anything, it hasnt affected anything, surprisingly, (well, not at all really).

The leave it to air dry for 15 or so minutes, then put some bepanthen on it, and then do the same twice a day til it heals. Last time it hardly scabbed at all and had healed fully in 2 weeks (the scab was on and gone in about 4 days)

I dry it off with a clean towel the first time.. I really doubt anything will happen from the fibres in a towel.. Paper towel has fibres too =P

The only problem with using a towel is it makes a mess of it, but it usually washes out ok

I use A&D for mine. I've never had a problem using it. I make sure I grab enough of the little packets they have at the shop.

I hate this stuff....

It stinks. I don't like the way it smells.


This is the stuff I use. No smell, and I can get a couple applications from one packet.

I agree, but they say it lets the tattoo breath better. Who knows.
