Taylor AB

Does anyone play one of these great ABG?
Unfortunately they are not produced any more.
I have a 99 AB-1, defretted, with K&K pickup and Dogal Strings, very nice.

from 1996, one of the first ones. I put a Fishman blender system with a little Crown mike in it. Sounds good, but what kind of pickup system are you using?

Mine's a spruce top, and it has gone very dark orange over the years; also put a hipshot tuner on the low E. Lovely bass - I wish they had made a six string version. And I've always wondered about putting a magnetic pickup back by the bridge on that bass. I totally love the design, superb ergonomics for a big bass; it's like a Mexican mariachi bass meets the space age; Klein is a genius.

Cheers,
Cameron

my Taylor came with a simple Fishman active piezo.
Last year I added a K&K Sound Pure Bass/Tenor Guitar pickup: two transducers that have to be glued beneath the bridge from inside the body. Sounds very similar to a good microphone. You have to get used to it, as any kind of "noise" from your fingers on the wood will be amplified as well. But I love the "wooden" sound. In most cases I use a mix of the Fishman and the K&K, (both passive - no batteries!).

I don't own one but a friend of mine let me borrow his for about 6 months (he doesn't even play bass). I have only played a handfull of acoustic bass guitars but I really liked this one. If I had a need for an ABG I would definitely try to get one of these. The sound was exactly what I would want in an ABG.

Here's mine....

Im-BOOOOH-ya! Gorgeous, man.

Nice; I'll take a shot of mine in a couple of minutes and get it up.

Really curious about those K&K pickups now; have to check into those. I was thinking of getting a little Benedetto jazz guitar humbucker back by the bridge.

BTW, mine sounds amazing through my Trace-Elliot Acoustic PA :bassist:

Cheers,
Cameron
