I've never had trouble with the Martins sounding harsh or cold (quite the opposite--their known for rich clear bass that Taylors lack)

I'd have to guess that a heavier gauge string would be less tinny.

Back on-topic: My experience with Taylor is lmited to one acoustic owned by one of the guitar players in a band I was in up until 2009. He owned the Taylor, and a Martin. I don't know the models, but he quantified them by saying that they were both about $1,000. At the $1,000 pricepoint (assuming he was accurate), the Taylor sounded and played infinitely better than the Martin. Based on this experience I had always assumed that Taylors were incredible. I'll be purchasing a new acoustic this year for a new project, and I'll have to give Taylor a more objective look after hearing the comments in this thread.

Back off topic: I am a Martin guy through and through but at $1,000 price point there are way more competitive options than Martin for acoustic guitars.

I do concede that after a certain price point Taylor's get a lot better. There are some that sound rich and beautiful. On the whole Martins just have a much higher propensity to achieve such beauty, even the cheaper ones. IMHO, IME, etc.

To the OP, please keep us updated on what you tried and your results. I'm always receptive to a new tip/trick.

Taylors and Martins sound great. Remember they exist as two different takes for different tastes.
The generally lower priced Takamines that sound not as developed or of lesser quality when played acoustically can sound absolutely stunning in a big loud mix onstage and FOH.

I have many high end acoustic guitars and have gigged them for 15 years....IMO it is all about the pickup and electronics. I am a big fan of soundboard transducers, including lr baggs ibeam and k&k pure western, mainly because of their warmth. They are feedback prone (especially if you play at drummer levels), but a soundhole feedback buster usually solves that. your other alternative would be to try a fishman aura pedal as previously suggested, it will warm up a undersaddle piezo.
