I'm thinking it's about time for another TB/DB CD release. I've got 3 things I'd like up, R2D2's got some octet stuff, you, PAXTER, Alex Scott, few other folks.

Should the call go round?

Sounds good. I'll be doing my first recording in the last few years Saturday, in a trio setting, with some older cats I've been playing with occasionally.

Also my first time with the Solano Klotz on a recording.

Naw, I was humming about the notion of Son of Johnson. I don't have anything new, but that could change anytime I get the gumption and the cash -- the tunes are always there.

So, speak up, all ye recordists. Anybody?

I've got some weird instrumental rock stuff. It ain't jazz though (?) ... is this just jazz? Or should I submit just in case (I have no ego in this situation, it would be an honor to be included but I am not going to be offended if not)

Not only does it have to be jazz, but it must be jazz played in (*sniff*) an AUTHENTIC MANNER. And it absolutely MUST swing. If it doesn't swing, you get a fine and/or get your TB status changed so that you can only post in the "Tablature" forum for the next three months. Oh, and it's OK to rush, but if you drag, you owe Ed a bikini waxing session. And he's one hairy bastard....

Serious Moderator Voice On: The call for the first TB/DB Sampler was, "Anything with DB or EUB." The cuts ranged included string-band swing, bluegrass, latin, jazz standards and modern jazz. Perhaps another trek through would yield submissions for classical/concert music, traditional folk, singer-songwriter, hip-hop jazz, free-improv . . . as Dorothy Kilgallen once put it, "The full spectrum from A to B."

Heavens to murgatroid, I've actually got some stuff this time 'round, too! Some bluegrass rehearsal stuff on minidisc, even some live jazz from a gig. The live jazz stuff is being doctored up by an engineer, so I'll have to see how it sounds.

Also, as Sam and Ed know, I've recently come into more space on the server and can thusly store and serve up quite a few more mp3 files. Look for a development there in the next few days.

I think we absolutely need some stuff OTHER than jazz up there! I love jazz as much as the next cat, but geez...

Geez, all I meant was, ANTE UP. The more, the merrier! The last sampler was a blast, but I'd have to echo DAMIEN's comment that 665 of the 666 cuts submitted were kinda jazzlike. It would be great to hear some of the different stuff out there.




....says the guy who plans to submit a couple of jazz tunes. :D

Next time you go upstairs, you might note that Paul has
been soliciting very heavily for TB members, all members, to
contribute to the new TB Sampler CD project. This is
designed to encourage members to upgrade to support.

That support, as you know, pays for not just the
surfboard kids, but you guys too.

I think it would be a nice gesture to see if you guys
could help out here. He has had the announcement
all over the board for weeks, until the board got
hacked. Up to now, no DB cuts have been
offered to him, to add to this project,
which, personally, I think is a huge gap in such a
project. And that has surprised me, that
the guys I felt were the core of the roots of
TB, and likely the best musicians on the board,
have not had some material to add.

I came to this board through a Yahoo DB list, that
was my initial interest. (Btw I am happy to note that I
received my first EUB from DonZ the other day, and am
hoping to enlist jazz veteran Bob Peterutti as my
DB mentor, his health permitting.)

And I always thought the DB community was a key
factor in the validity and success of this board.

This project needs your help, and as such, I challenge
you to consider original material contributions such
as may be available, whether new or from
former projects.

And the ultimate goals, for some of us, to be published;
and for Paul Determan, to continue to run this board
in the black, can both be accomplished successfully.

Please do what you can to help out.

DOG OF DANDER,

Last I checked in on that thread, it was looking like the submissions were either going to have to be originals, or a fee would have to be paid to the ASCAP/BMI if "standards" were going to be used. I have no problem submitting to both if these issues are resolved. I do feel that the DB side should go ahead and do its own thing, since we only distribute to DB supporting members and those few others who make a special request. But I don't see any reason why duplication should be forbidden. Thoughts?
