Premature posting...

I just checked and shipping is $30. I would just send the payment then bug him until I got confirmation of shipping.

He will then tell you that it shipped and that he will get back to you with the tracking number but he won't until you pester him for that. He uses UPS Ground so count for about five business days or so for delivery. After a few days bug him about the tracking number so that you can plan and not just let the brown truck leave it at your door.

It is all an exercise in patience...but worth it in the end!

Well since Jack offered me a choice of two basses that would ship out today and he never responded to my choice with an invoice, I went ahead and Paypaled him the money anyway since that seems to be the only thing that works. Here's hoping.

I feel like this is appropriate... heh

I just put in a Nordstrand MM5.2 in my JT500MM and it's really helped with the tone. It wasn't a massive difference at first in passive but the new refined level was noticeable. The top end was much sweeter and extended and the lows are slightly extended over stock and sounded somewhat fuller in passive mode. Once the new preamp got hold of those extended lows and boosted them, WOW. This is in my opinion a top tier bass now. It feels as good as a Lakland with MM pickup that I played the other day and sounds even better. The mids are about the same with the Nordstrand as the stock pickups.

The preamp I choose is the same as in my FBass. I'm very fond of that preamp and FBass so it made sense to try to get one for this bass. I'm really diggin this TBC bass so cost wasn't so much a factor. It was a night and day difference when installing it over the el cheapo TBC preamp. IMO it may not be worth the hassle or extreme cost to obtain one and put one in though...

I also purchased some original Pre Ernie Ball MM 2 band preamp boards from a fellow TB'er. There is a thread in the pickups forum and also B/S/T's for them. I think if I was really interested in keeping this bass afordable but wanted to upgrade the sound I'd recommend one of those and keep the stock pickups. You could use the extra hole for a pickup series parallel switch!

I was able to make a crappy recording of the stock pickup in passive before I installed the Nordstrand MM5.2 so I'll see if I can piece together a decent comparison track and post it here.

Very appropriate!

He IS terrible with communication but if he tells you he has one for sale and you send him the money you WILL get one without much further trouble.

I would send him an email informing him of payment and of the model you prefer. When I finally received my invoice it mentioned the blue pick guard. I paid it anyway and sent him an email stating my preference for the red one. He didn't reply of course, but I did receive the red one.

I really like the look of these basses and from what I read on TB they are good basses.

I sent an email and I waited for a reply, I also tried his phone on a almost daily basis for a couple of weeks. Now I feel like just sending him the money with the info of the bass I wanted. So far from all the posts I read, Jack always delivered when payment was sent.

Jack seems trust worthy, but very busy. I'm contemplating if I should send payment now and hope for the best, or give it another week. I just don't want to miss out on it.

Well apparently my TBC bass is arriving today. Only reason I know is thanks to UPS MyChoice alerting me that I have a delivery coming today! Emailed a day or two ago making sure we were squared away and asking when it would ship or for tracking if it did already. Didn't get a response, of course! We'll see how it sounds tonight!

May I ask when was your last contact with jack when he offered you the SS and the JJ. I'm trying to get the JJ if it was fairly recent I may have a chance.

That was 4/30. Said he had the JT400SS with black cherry pickguard, that I presume he sent me...as well as the JT400JJ with the same guard. Said if I was interested in either, he would ship on 5/2. I replied in less than 20 minutes that I wanted the SS and have had no reply from him since. That's why I went ahead and sent him the money, and apparently he sent it out the 3rd when I sent the money late on the 2nd.

While Jack's communication is definitely lacking, I've yet to hear of anyone getting the wrong instrument or configuration than they asked for. I'm sure you'll get the JT400-SS that you asked for...and when you get it make sure you post pics!

Just got off the phone with Jack. After weeks of intimate phone calls with his answering machine I finally got to talk with him. I have to say he's a real nice fellow. Loves his craft. It was difficult to get off the phone with the guy since he's a pleasure to talk to, I could have easily spent over an hour talking.

After all that talk I was able to request the bass I wanted. He gave me an estimate of 2-3 weeks. Apparently he's moving to SoCal. YES SOCAL!(Southern California). Best part about that is he'll be 20mins away from me.

This is my first "made to order" bass. I'm quite excited.
