Double Bass TC Electronic BG250-208 Anyone tried?

I have the BH 250 head into a Yorkville XC-115 Cab. I like the sound and with my FDeck I can get a nice usable natural sound from my DB. I have a piezo and mic that I blend. I only play in church and small coffee house type venues. I am hoping to get either a 2 x 10 cab or a 2 x 8 cab soon to try. My initial impressions seem to be the same as the others. The head will not produce enough sound in a large room or venue. Especially if you have to play with a full band. I have not used it much yet with my BG but I got the same impressions in the little that I have. I also noticed the DI out is much hotter than the DI out on my paradriver that I used to use. Just my two cents.

Digging up an old thread.

Picked up a one of these suckers on clearance today. Wanted a small amp for band rehearsal that had more ooomph than my old Roland MicroCube. Wasn't looking for a gig rig, as I have a Markbass rig for that. I looked at the Markbass 2x8 and it sounded absolutely awesome. And it should for $700. It was more than I was looking to spend. I had gone to GC to hear the Micromark 1x8. It was really impressive for a single 8, but was missing some bottom end, especially on the B string. Then I saw the tc electronic 2x8 on clearance. Same price as the MicroMark 1x8. It sounded a lot better than the 1x8, and was plenty loud for rehearsal. We typically rehearse in one of my bandmates condo or at his office in an empty room, so we can't play loud. I found I could only run the tc rig a little less than half way up before things got a bit too loud for our low volume rehearsals.

When we play as a trio in small coffee houses or similar venues, stage space is always a premium and I could see using the 2x8 in some instances. My Markbass 2x10 rig is sometimes like bringing a bazooka to an archery competition. I can barely run the volume off zero.

For the intended purpose, the bg250-802 is absolutely fine, but not in the same league as its Markbass competitor. If I'd have had $300 more dollars to spend, I'd have bought the Markbass 2x8.

I played thru the Markbass 2x6" combo once and found it horrible: lacking in both lows and highs, it made the bass sound like a trumpet - very nasaly sounding and not very loud (as you could probably guess).
Glad the 2x8" from TC is working for you.

I tried one of the TC's on a gig - not enough bottom for me. I tried a TC 250 head with my Schroeder 12 and it was quite good, tho at one point I bumped the Tone print and ended up with some chorus effect that I didn't want.

BUT - i then went and tried a Traynor SB115 - and loved it!!! and other musicians loved it. Clean, clear, simple, pretty light, a bit awkward to move but not bad. And Canadian built. And, in CND dollars, about $550. I am thinking of buying one, but first want to try a TC 15 combo. BUT - Traynor could be it! (For what I need.)

I've just replaced the two speakers in my 2x8 with one Fane Soverign 8-225 ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) and used the hole left by the other speaker for porting as calculated by WinISD. I'm very pleased with the result after two rehearsals. The Fane is heavier than the two generic speakers combined with a much better tone and volume. At about £30 (~$50) it was well worth it.

I have tried (and returned) the TC unit. Really digging the Markbass 802 (used) and Acoustic Image Ten2 (new).
I really like them both, MB easy light for most gigs AI allows me to use my Troll Mic.
Overall the Markbass 802 is the best , light solution.
I tried the 801 but it was too small , boxy and the 802 features are way better.
I just ordered the tweeter box $69.00

How do these speakers compare to the Markbass speakers?

Just to clarify, your 2x8 is a TC Electronic product or something else?

I saw someone with a 2x8 combo and an extra cabinet wich was exactly the same dimensions. And it looked to be a 2x8 extention cabinet. But it's not on their website.... Hmmmm....

It's probably not an actual extension cabinet, but another BG250 208 combo. It would be real easy to use just the speaker of the second combo as an extension. I'm considering trying this myself. How did it sound?

Sorry for the late reply, we've just moved house and chaos has reigned in the B household for the past 2 or 3 weeks.

I replaced the bottom speaker... mainly for balance as it's a heavy little thing and I thought that the upper position would make it a bit too top heavy for my liking. I did'nt thnk about the coupling effect, but it's an added bonus.

Resurrecting this one a little bit but I was curious about this very concept the other day. it would be really easy to do as it's just the BG250 head with a Speakon connector to a closed cab that holds the 2x8" speakers and all you'd have to do is connect the speakon from the lower cab to the connection on the top one. Can probably pick a used one up for comparable to a 2x10" or 2x12" cab.

I do occasionally hook up my BC212 to it and have to say that it just adds a nice, and necessary deep punch to the amp...especially if playing in a larger venue/louder band. Kudos to TC for making the height of the BG250-208 the same as the standing width of the BC cabs.

Better late than never...I tried out the TC Electronic BG250-208 with a Trace Elliot 2X8 ELF bass ext cab that I own (I have 2)...makes a BIG difference across the whole audio spectrum. Plenty of low end and volume. I'm considering buying one, and using the ELF ext cab for larger venues. Keep it low, guys...
