TC Electronic BG250 Club (Part 2)

3 for me! Still gigging my BG250 1st Edition with my acoustic rock originals band. Sounds fantastic!

And as I was always thinking my bg250 could sound a bit nicer (even if I already found it nice) and was sometime dealing with boomy low end and some too present nasal mids, I opened my combo and braced it as it is shown in this thread.
It was simple to do and free, because I used old pieces of wood laying in my garage since some years.
And I have to say the result is very interesting. It doesn't change drastically the tone of the combo but things are nicer. Low end and mids seem more controlled.
I don't know how to describe it but I would say the sound is more tight and less resonating, if it makes sense. There's the same level of low end but it's less overwelming.
I also tried to put a small pillow in the port to hear how it would change the tone. It works well to remove the natural hump at 80/100Hz.
I decided to let it open as the bass knob of the bg250 is set to cut in that area. And I didn't hear a big difference between closed port and open port with a little cut on the bass knob.
But it's another option which is possible.

Ok, I did a rehearsal yesterday with my ugraded combo and it was awesome. I could put more bass than usually and still keep a clear tone. Amazing.
I heard it cleraly and so did my bandmates when I didn't say I did anything. They just noticed that our band tone was way better than usual.

i own BG250 208. i'm planning to get another combo BG250 115. i wonder how it's sound like if BG250 208 pair with BG250 115..
My BG250-208 has just gone "phut" after 5 weeks of bedroom playing and one rehearsal. I switched it on and....... nothing. No lights, no sound...... totally dead to the world. I did the usual on/off/on/off etc, tried a new power lead, a different power socket, but to no avail. It's being collected for a warrenty repair. It wouldn't be too bad but I've got a gig on Saturday..... time to wheel out my old DIY valve amp and a D.I. box. Ho-hum.
The flexibility is one of the reasons I quickly converted to head + cab. The lightweight amps of this millennium are so easy to carry. I have a TC BH250 with an Eden EX112 4ohm cab for home/small gig use. With my cover band I currently use a Markbass F1 (which replaced my EBS Reidmar, which I now consider to sell), which is just as light weight, but with a larger stack of Kustom Deep End 115 + 210 (Yes, a Markbass head on a budget stack). The heads are backups for each other.
Hello Everyone my fairly new bg250 is acting up. The tone prints knobs are making a loud weird noise if the on switch is engaged even if the knob is turned down. This is happening on both toneprints, the only way to use my amp last night was to have both toneprints turned counter clockwise and the led switched off. Is there anyway to maybe reset the amp via the usb cable?
There's no problem correcting reset switch.
If it's fairly new, return it, exchange it, or get a warranty repair.

Just got a used BG250 115 but the tweeter seems dead, only hiss and some kind of distortion if I crank the volume.I try to open the grill but I can't pull it off. Has anyone tried it?
Edit: just did it. Started from bottom left corner and grill was finally out...now I need to find a tweeter replacement....
Also another question regarding toneprints. I'll definitely keep the spectracomp but on chorus/flanger effects I didn't find a preset to control the speed with the knob...only dry/wet. There are too many presets to try so if anyone found one please share it!

I saw some posts mentioning rattle coming from tweeter. Now I am a bit confused. I am pretty confident the tweeter is dead cause I don't hear anything coming, only a slight hiss. But if I go loud ,over 1 o'clock it seems like a rattle noise but basically it's a load scratch coming from the tweeter. Could anyone who has the same problem confirm this?
You might try looking for those posts again and sending a message(s) to people who've described similar issues. This isn't consistently a high-traffic thread.
The BG250's tweeter is generally regarded as being pretty subtle. I believe some have taken it to not be working because of the lower treble (or unboosted treble) of passive basses. The expectation for some was that it would stand out more than they were hearing.
If you haven't already, you might also try another source (EQable) through the aux in, one with a lot of hf content. Boost the highs cut the lows from the source (BG eq doesn't work on the aux - straight through).

The guy said I had to pick it up today as he is out of town and the GF is moving their apartment.
Have only played it for a few minutes and am amazed how loud and light it is.
As noted, the tweeter is next to useless and the system could use more high end.
Has anyone determined if a tweeter swap can fix this, or is the crossover set to a much too high for bass guitar use?
The dowels mention above are very interesting for stiffening the cab but want to get the high end sorted first.
I could use outboard EQ but wondered if there was a better fix (like a different tweeter), or an easy crossover mod.

Now fighting the boxy, boomy, small cab blues.

I'm not a cabinet design guy, but I haven't heard of anything particularly good coming from swapping out the speaker. The sound character of the BG250 seems to come largely from the cabinet itself...it has inherent qualities. Some like it as is, and most success at dealing with those aspects (where they're found undesirable) has come from EQ (look for ticol's posts). Do you have a VT or B3? In you don't have something handy that you can run in line, work with the amp's EQ and your bass. If you haven't tried it, a good starting point seems to be cutting the bass on the BG250 to -1 or 2 and leaving it there while you try to dial other things in.
