That is my plan. Almost picked up a used ELF about 3 months ago.....was more pricey than this new product. I hope I never use it, but needed a backup for my pocket....what's next, plugging into our wristwatch for 500 watts of amazing power??

TC Electronic launches BAM200

Like the Trace Elliot Elf, it needs an effects send/return, or a bypass of its internal preamp to spark my interest

In summary, "send" allows you to plug in effects, and bypass the preamp to send a direct unaffected signal so your effects can do their stuff without having been pre-eq'd/colored (important for some effects). "Return" is where those effects will plug back in and then hit the amplifier stage directly. Importantly it also allows you to plug in a different (better) preamp, so then you're just hitting the power section with your own pre rather than the built-in pre.
Plugging a Tonehammer or Subway into one of these (if they had send/return) would instantly elevate it. But then, you're losing some of the ultra-portable appeal of these all-in-one micro-marvels, and besides you're spending enough you may as well just get a used Tonehammer or Subway head anyway. The weight/portability difference between a 50 pound lead-sled amp and a 5-7 pound Class D is huge. The difference between those and these 1-2 pounders, not so much. IMO, YMMV.
No TonePrint integration? I would expect a sterile Class-D tone. Pass until someone makes a good demo to convince me otherwise.

This is so "exactly what I have been waiting for." TC makes great products, but I don't need DSP or other flash options, and I've been put off by all that. All I really want is...well I want exactly what it says on the product description of the BAM200. Will the EQ suck? I'm betting not, but heck I've worked around poor EQ on so many amps now I'll hardly notice. I mean, it remains to be seen if they've done something incredibly stupid, like a 45Hz highpass on the power stage or painfully unpleasant clipping when pushed... none of which sounds like typical TC mistakes...
But speculation is boring. I'm going to forget it exists for now, otherwise the suspense will kill me.

Is it just me, or do the photos here and on Sweetwater look like computer renderings, and not the real thing?
While I dig the idea of the BAM, much like the ELF, this just has me vacillating between the BQ250 and BH250 as well, seeing as used pricing will be much better and it's only really a difference of a few lbs. BH250 has Toneprint as well.
How hungry am I, or any of us, really, for an amp solely because we can potentially fit it in our pocket?

This is a snap call as a backup head. A priority these days is reducing the load in/load out. My BH 250 (bought strictly as a backup because it’s so small and I got a good deal) doesn’t really fit in my Reunion Blues bag. This would.

Exactly my bh250 doesn't fit either. I would also sell all my LEDs sleds and use for Studio practice.
Actually now that I think about it, I would just get this and then sell my 250 and get a nicer gigging head. Veyron maybe. I originally bought the 250 as a backup but for the reason you mentioned this would be a better fit, and the 250 was about as small as they went back 6 years ago.
I am very happy with my BH250 the one with tone print. Sweetwater $250. I imagine this new little 200 watt one for $150 will be very good as well.
If a quick start guide has a page 21 it's not a quick start guide.
Interesting.... when I first saw the headline for this post, I figured this would be triple the actual (claimed) $149 street price.
It seems pretty limited in what it can do, but I think that's the point. This would be a great last resort backup amp that you can carry anywhere and will get you through a gig if your primary fails. For this money and size I don't see how it can have some of the features people claim to need (send/return, etc). But as an emergency backup, and at that price, I don't need the fancy stuff. It just might earn a spot with my gear.
