Agreed with the octaver, there are limits to this lovely box of tricks and that's one of them. Having said that there are some awesome pedals out there that you can combine with this hub, to get an amazing array of effects. At the moment I have an envelope filter that's showing it's age, that I may swap out for something that provides both services.

I'm getting it more for my guitar signal chain, thinking I'll put it in the fx loop of my guitar amp for time based effects..... but then I thought to myself, I wonder if any bassists use these?
Never even occurred to me until I woke up (just now, good morning!) that the time based effects, comp, drives etc would be well suited to bass...........
Consider me a new member of this club!

After using it for a while - I'm enjoying it so much that it's becoming a mainstay in my signal chain for bass as well as for guitar!
I find this very easy to program compared to things like Line6 devices. This one's been used for a long time and still works perfectly, which is the sort of reliability record I was looking for in a device like this.
I actually find that it works so well between bass and amp that I'm just using it like that for now - I'm creating a couple of programs just for bass, and I control it with my FCB1010 currently which also gives me ability to have one of the cv pedals control anything I want.... drive level, pitch, volume if I wanted to travel without my morley volume pedal.
Further to my above post, I have gone with the TC Electronic Sub’n’Up Octaver, awesome tracking and the TonePrint option really helps. Price/performance-wise it knocked everything else I tried out of the park.

Just got a used NS today and I love it. I have a Line 6 HX Stomp that I have a love/hate relationship with. It sounds good but I don't have the patience to dive through menus to get my sound. I also have some pedals but I want to tweak knobs but not have to worry about Velcro and tons of patch cords
One question that I apologize if it's already been addressed. The tuner won't recognize my E and A strings unless I fret at the 12th, is that a known issue or am I just doing something wrong? Thanks for the help!

Compressor settings for slap bass
Anyone care to share their settings to get a classic slap tone?
I am using a Yamaha BB 734 through a Markbass Ninja so have plenty of tonal control, just want to get something extra (I know, I know it’s all technique, but indulge me)

DUDE! I'm incredibly impressed, and I don't get impressed (honestly impressed) like this very often any more.
I'm working on learning this song (all the parts (bass, guitar, drums, keys- I'm a masochist), to record for my many years in the making solo album).... and I actually just learned a few things from watching you play this that will help me immensely!
Also - DAMN I CAN FINALLY HEAR THE BASS PART ON A DREAM THEATER ALBUM!

I HATE how they mix the bass so scooped and fuzzy and quiet on their albums, nice tone, but just disappears.
your tone has presence, and was played INSANELY well.
I'm just blown away.
Also, I owned one of those basses briefly and just couldn't handle it - high action that I just couldn't bring down low enough even with a huge (HUGE) shim in the pocket, and the tone just never worked for me. Yours sounds like that, but you definitely make it work for you... I can hear the lack of presence and treble that I encountered, but you work around it, presumably using your tc nova system eq etc.
End result is great - my new favorite version of the song. Turning this into an mp3 for myself to learn the part from LoL

I appreciate the time you took to check it out. I used to play this in my former band (we were me, drums, keys and were in-between guitarists) when we worked it up. Took about 2 years, but we had the drums, keys and bass down cold. The guitarist we eventually got was a bit intimidated by it and never really took to it, so we stopped playing it very frequently, to my dismay.
I picked it up again recently because I wanted to cover "Instrumedley" from the Budokan DVD (yes, I too, and all prog bassists, are masochists at heart). Much of it I knew from covering "Dance of Eternity," "Erotomania," "Ytse Jam," "Paradigm Shift," "Metropolis Part I," and "Universal Mind." So I figured I knew about 95% of "Instrumedley" and that it would be easy.

"Instrumedley" comes at you anywhere from 5% to 25% faster than the studio versions of the songs that comprise it - it's insane. So while I knew "Dance," the end of "Instrumedley" before they close with "Hell's Kitchen" where they revive it after the LTE stuff, I could not play it at the DVD tempo without slopping up on some of those 10-note half step runs lol. So I figured I would fix that by slowing it down... but then I remembered that "Dance" is slower tempo than "Instrumedley" - so why not revisit "Dance" and do a video, using it as a springboard for "Instrumedley"? "Dance" helped me get the song under my fingers, because the better I know a piece the faster I can play it without getting too sloppy. It's when I come to apart where it's not rock solid in muscle memory, and since I can't really read I have to learn the entire song by memory because I can't refer to a score as Im going to check myself, I don't have any choice but to remember everything start to finish.
There are some definite gonks - an extra note near the end of the bass solo, a few notes are a bit late because of the difficulty in making the reaches at that speed, or the complexity of the pattern. For instance, John plays a fretted "D" in places where I may hit an open string "D," causing my note to lose some character when compared to how he hits it, but it was either that or miss the riff entirely, so here and there is a nip and a tuck.

I am singularly IMPRESSED that a single person would become 4 of the best musicians on the planet in playing one of their most difficult pieces! Bass, guitar, drums AND keys? Do you know how astounding a split screen video would be??? I would freakin love to see that. Unfreakn real.

About the bass - You're right about the tone. On it's own the RBXJM2 doesn't have a lot of presence and some high end shimmer that I would like, and you're also correct that I compensate for it with the Nova System parametric EQ. I also have to change the strings frequently as I use a lot of Dunlop string cleaner to lube the strings AND my plucking fingers. The stuff is magic. I will apply it directly to my plucking hand fingertips before a song.

Yes the tuner on the Nova system is known not to play well with lower bass notes as if was really designed to work with guitars, not bass.
A lot of bass users tune by 12th harmonics or use an outboard tuner.

I'm quite impressed with the compressor, drive, delay, reverb, and modulation. The nova system just knocked out 6 pedals on my main pedal board.
On a related note, does anyone here use a G System?
I was wondering if the G System allowed a clean signal to be always on, then blended with the affected signal before going out the amp. Basically I would like to run a bass signal into it, have one channel clean and another affected, then blend them on the G System (Im posting a similar question on the Effects forum here).
Anyone?

G system looks like overkill to me, unless you have a spare one knocking about. I use the Boss LS2 to retain my clean signal. I then route through the Nova System and a few other add-ons as a completely separate channel. Blending them back in through the LS2 is a cinch, it’s bulletproof and takes up very little space on my board. £60 gets you a nice used one; I love a bargain!
Ok, but do you know anything about routing and summing on the G System?
I’ve owned LS-2’s, and have been doing splitting and summing of signals for years in my setup, but have not used a G System which is why I was asking about it.
