TC Electronic's expanded BG250 Combo Family

I just comeback from the store, played thru the 15 and 12. My favorite one was the 12" because it was clearer and had a tighter low end but I could not try it at high level, the store was full. I don't know how the 12" would react at a gig ...

It's funny i coun't use the 2 toneprints at the same time, is it normal? when i was engaging the octaver, the compressor was turning off each time...

Gotta say guys......
I'm on the hunt for a downsize this upcoming year, and for kicks today I tried out the gk210, gk115 and the bg112.

I chose an ibanez active 5 string off the wall at GC .
BOTH gk units farted instantly on the low B. I tried all different settings and combinations of buttons on and off- because of all the rave reviews these combos get on here, I figured I must've had something going wrong for them to be THIS bad. I never made EITHER sound good at any volume. In fact...both I and the salesperson were taken aback and I asked if they were both blown and he said that they were new put out last week. Not sure what was going on there.......but it doesn't matter because-

Plugged into the bg250 and was floored. It was clear, concise, and really loud. I loved it. Rang the low B like a bell. I had cash in hand and the reps knew it so I turned up the drive and master about half way and let it rip. It was awesome. Just wow.....loved everything about it!
The only reason I don't own it right now is that I'm nervous about buying a 112 combo that I can't run an extension cab with. The bg112 seems like it would cover 80% of my gigs....but I want to 100% replace my current rig- so I may go with a bc212 and a 200w+ class D head so I can add another cab as needed.

I ordered the 208 unseen and unplayed (was always lucky, so I gave it a shot).
unfortunately, I am completely underwhelmed.
all my basses sound completely muffled in neutral EQ position (okay, I play flats, and like a muffled sound...but where are the crisp highs??!) I had to turn up the treble completely to get a little bit high end, but not the way I am used to. even my Ampeg B-15 has more highend, with the treble rolled completely down, no kidding!
The Problem is only withe the flatwound basses, no problems with rounds..but I play flats! not happy atm.
I will have to try it on THU at the rehearsal, I hope it's better in the mix than solo, otherwise I have to send it back.

I've been using the BG250 (the first one, with the 15" speaker) for a few months now, and i'm really pleased. I use it as my practice amp, but also with my students during my bass lessons and for small gigs, when I don't want to move my bigger amp.
I normally hate playing with a single 15", but I find this one quite balanced. The EQ is really efficient.
Great piece of gear, at a great price!

TC has that line of heads that fits I to their special 210 cabinet. So you can make a combo by buying than separately. Just curious if any combos were ever designed that way.

Yamaha's BBT line had two combos with a removable amp section. It was a 500W amp at 2 Ohms, the combos featured custom 10" or 15" Eminence drivers at 4 Ohms. 110, 210 and 410 extension speakers were also part of the line and the amp was available as a head, too.

can you comment on the volume? can it keep up with a drummer?

i've been using a markbass 2x6 minimark for a while and am looking at weather or not its worth getting one of these.

I'm pretty sure the 210 is a little louder than the 115 because of speaker area.

The 115 keeps up in a rock band with a pretty hard hitting drummer. I've played off the stage with no pa support on many small and medium sized gigs.

Not sure about the lack of highs. Almost all my basses are passive and I have no issues with highs and tone. Nearly always keep it flat and I like the sound.

Could be a defective tweeter or maybe it just doesn't work for you. Any chance of finding a local place that has one you can try?

I tried a 208 this morning and I'm pretty sure the 208 is NOT expandable. Either that or the sales guy was plugging stuff in he shouldn't have :D

When we plugged in a couple of different extension cabinets at the guitar store today (a tc 2x10 and a peavey 1x15...I think), the two 8" speakers in the combo ceased to produce sound.

I have been unable to find anything in TC website documentation.

Could it be the wrong extension speakers were put into this little box today (wrong Ohmage or power ratings...I wasn't paying attention...thus activating a safety switch?)? Or is this truly not expandable (ie a cut off switch to the 2x8's activated when plugging into the external speaker jack).

My guess is that he was plugging into the headphone jack, not the external speaker jack.

Here is a pic from the rear.

Maybe he unplugged the internal speakers and used the 1 amp speaker jack for the external cab rather than the extension jack. I've tried it twice and it worked fine.

I think about professional bass combo (In my opinion most of the bass combos are make to be a "first amp for begginers" and not for more pro situation). Are 2x10 or 1x12 will be a good choice for portable pro sound (instead of ex. portable head and small cabinet like 1x12 or 2x10) and a good alternative from solid state amp and big cabinet ? I need sth like that for rehearsals and small gigs in clubs. Usually I play with quite loud drummers, with 1 guitar player or sometimes 2 and vocalist. I like amps which don't change sound of bass when they're flat but when I need to change some tone from eq on amp I need solid fat, big, warm sound.

The 210 is a nice amp. It's certainly capable for rehearsals and small gigs (and more)...I can't really speak to how the 112 stands up to a louder drummer, but I'd think it would potentially be overtaken.

That said, I don't think the BG250s are really regarded as "transparent." With your requirements, if you can't get a listen, you'd probably be better off looking at others, just IMO.
