TC Helicon Harmony Singer Pedal?

Maybe a long shot, but does anyone have any experience with one of these?

Here is a demo video.

Seems pretty cool. However, most demos I am seeing feature live performances. My intended use would be for home recording, using Audacity and an interface box.

I typically put down a guitar track, then a separate vocal track. I am a bit confused as to whether I would have to play another guitar accompaniment with the vocal, as that seems to be how the contraption figures out the harmonies to sing.

However, I would not want to record the guitar accompaniment to the vocals, and I am trying to figure out if that would work. In the demo, I am not hearing ukulele harmonies, is that just because it's further from the mic?

I wonder if I could plug in the Audacity guitar track, instead of a guitar, and it could figure out the harmonies from that?

Hopefully that makes sense. There are also other seemingly similar products out there, if anyone has a recommendation.

Thanks!

I have a friend who has a newer, bigger model from TC Helicon (don't remember which one). She uses it in performance, not for recording. I've learned from her that 1) if you don't use a guitar to provide harmony content, you get nothing out of it other than the original MIC input (seems obvious, but had to test it), and 2) you don't hear the sound of the guitar input unless you specifically turn that feature on (that may be specific to her model). She plays an acoustic fitted with a Lace pickup. The signal from the Lace feeds the TC harmonizer; the guitar itself is heard through a microphone. And, her vocals are processed by the TC and then fed to the PA. It sounds AMAZING when it's dialed in correctly.

It also works with an electric guitar, and when she uses that, the guitar's sound is not heard by the audience.

We tested it using a keyboard for input - wrong impedance and level - did not work at all.

Never tried it using a bass - that's something I'd like to do in the future.

OK, I was able to create this harmony track using Audacity. Duplicated an existing vocal track and then used the 'Change Pitch' function. I wouldn't say it sounds 'amazing,' but I guess I just saved $200! Thanks everyone.

(apologies to Bobby D)
