TC RH750 part II

Just following up... after 15-20 gigs or so I'm still very happy with the RH750. I have two RS210s and one RS212, and have used them all in various configurations, and I've been satisfied with them all. Specs be damned, this rig is freaking LOUD. I've had no trouble hearing myself even on the largest stages, and haven't even come close to pushing the limit on this rig's output.

The finish on the cabs has scuffed up quite a bit -- lots of little battle scars -- but I don't really give a crap about that. It just shows they're being used like they're supposed to be used. They've held up well to the abuse, functionally. And the replacement knobs have caused me no problems.
+1
Same with me, but I never had problems with the knobs!

Just purchased a very clean RH-750 here on TB to go with my RS212, of course I wasn't surprised when I shook the package and heard 3 of the knobs rattling inside. I spent quite a bit of time with it today, dialing in my fretless SR4 on preset #1 and my 55-02 on preset #2. Sounds very solid and warm, and was glad to hear the cab NOT fart out when boosting the mids; also there was no hi end hiss from the amp when I dimed the treble. The cooling fan is a little annoying though.
Wondering if anyone would be willing to share their favorite settings with me, including the mid shift points. I read about someone's SVT setting earlier this week, but now I can't find it. Tia!

I found the whole knob thing a bit mysterious until a couple of weeks ago (up to that point, I hadn't personally had any problems in 5 years and two RH's). Fact is that the a poor choice was made with the knobs used. They don't simply fall off spontaneously; the tangs (I really need to find out what those are actually called) are very easily damaged. I assume that they've changed knobs, but any unit out there with the older knobs is at risk, if the right kind of stress is put on the knobs. Mine slipped back off of a counter lip and came to rest on the knobs. From dropping about a half inch, with the "impact" shared by all of the knobs, almost all of the knobs suffered at least one bent or broken tang, making them loose. There is no way that incident should have caused any damage whatsoever. With the newer knobs, it wouldn't have been an issue.

Contact TCE, and they will send you a new set of knobs.

A while back, I started a "favorite settings" thread...really dug in and calculated out frequency maps. There was some sharing that went on, but over a bit of time, it became apparent that settings, across the board, are far too individual for sharing specific settings to be of very much value. It can vary so much from bass to bass, cabinet to cabinet, string type/brand to string type/brand, etc. that it's unlikely that you're going to get the same sonic result from taking specific settings from someone posting something like "I set mine to -3, +2, 0, +10".

In terms of really getting a handle on the RH's semi-parametric eq/midpoint functionality, the most valuable thing I've come across was a video someone linked on the RH450 Club thread. The amp used in the video is a Markbass, but the principles apply, and have really allowed me to get the most out of the midpoint setup. The video is in Spanish but subtitled. I posted a Cliff's Notes summary, and the bassist who made the video participated and commented in the thread.

Thanks drpepper.....you're right about dialing in the "favorite settings".....just way to many choices, flavors and other ingredients. I just watched a few youtube clips on dialing in the mids, which were very helpful and helped me understand it more clearly. I'm pretty much a plug and play type, but really like what TCE offers, plus the head and cab sound good to me. I'm going to reset my 3 presets, then bring my rig to my engineer's studio & let him critique my mid settings.....I sometimes trust his ears more than mine. As for the knobs, I purchased this amp from warrior5st and as soon as he rocs the new knobs, he will send them to me. Thanks for the pic of the new knobs, think I'll go with those instead of buying something different.

Have a link to the YouTube?

Well, the RH can be plug and play for some people, but sometimes, when it's not, it's really not. Twist 'n hunt or going in with some preconceived idea based wholly on numbers can end up being fruitless or even worse, lead to some bad sounds.

Regarding knobs, when you say "contact TCE," do you actually mean an authorized service center? The first time I needed knobs, I did a support request through their website, but that doesn't appear to be an option now, and it is time for the next round of knobs.

Yes. I was referring to the website. I didn't know that wasn't an option. After reading your post, I looked at the website, and unfortunately, it appears that they've created a circular maze...quite unfortunate and disappointing :-( Geez, there should be a way to contact the company.

Personally, I got mine from a distributor with direct contact with TCE. I emailed my vendor and had a set of knobs in about a week. Sorry, I don't know what others have to do.

So, you're saying they sent you a set of replacement knobs at some point in the past that were the same ones with the bad design?

That sucks too.

I looked again, and if I didn't have the contact that I have, I'd try this link

Invalid Link Removed

Register and once in, there's an option at the top of the page to "Submit a Request"

As far as any of us understand, TCE is well aware that there's a problem with the knobs and will replace them on request (as they should). Good luck.

Thanks for this. Yes, I've replaced the knobs once. They sent me knobs of the same crappy design as the set that broke. These knobs break if you look at them cross-eyed.

I have the old knobs, they did start to come loose. Filled them with "Blu Tack" and stuck them back on. Not a problem since then.

If you're happy with that, good for you, but you shouldn't have to repair or jury-rig the knobs. (IMO) TCE owes anyone who has those old knobs, warranty or not. It was boneheaded to keep using the original knobs after it became apparent that they were problematic, which they did.

Agreed. I did ask for new knobs. I'll keep them handy for when/if my tack fails me.

Rumour has it that there is a new style knob available now that doesn't rely on those stupid little tines to hold them on. I'm getting a set tomorrow so I'll report back here when I have them.

Not a rumor, I posted a pic a little bit back on this page. One problem is that they've continued to send out the older knobs. I hope you get the newer ones.
