TC Sub 'N' Up Octaver! New Octave Pedal!

Did a few tests and I am unable to replace the OC-2 for the purpose of the John Davis/Nerve fx-chain.

Where it is now, I can get a not-so-good lowpass and some ok quack. Comp is not always on but when it is, actually helps with triggering the autowah, and the whole chain sound more consistent like a keyboard.

PS: still not able to replace the OC-2 for this purpose but I'm not done going through toneprints.

Obvious question, but have you tried the Classic TonePrint?

My MXR Bass Octave Deluxe get the job done with the help of some flange. This sounds more versatile but I don't need it.

Thanks for the suggestion, just tested Classic toneprint and still not the same as OC-2. Apart from that, the latency is killing me whenever I switch between analog and digital. Got these hooked up to a Boss LS-2 for a nice A/B comparison so I'll keep testing toneprints. Will share if I do find a similar one.

I made the mistake of opening the Sub N Up TonePrint editor.

I’m pretty well versed in effects, and how to get the sounds I want.

But the two that I opened that were WAY over my head, were this and the SpectraComp. There is SO much flexibility, that I just closed them without bothering to tweak.

I run my own settings in my Corona Mini, Flashback Mini and HOF, and have no problems playing in those editors. That flexibility gave me the ability to dial in exactly what I was looking for.

The SnU and SC were entirely different animals. However, if a person spent the time and energy to play around and become intimately familiar with them, I have no doubt that you could dial in damn near anything you wanted.

I'm very tech oriented and I played with the tone-print on the SnU for ages but could never get a really convincing 'analog' style sound and although the tracking wasn't bad, the latency was a deal breaker and I sold it on. It ultimately felt like I could adjust everything that I didn't care about but not the one thing I did. It was a big disappointment after the Flashback delay. The toneprint editor on that really gives me something useful. I'm making do with the octave down on a Boss PS6 for the moment and although sonically I would politely describe it as 'bland city', the tracking is no worse than the SnU and I can at least live with the latency. I'm pretty sure MXR are going to be taking my money pretty soon.

What preset are you using? Latency is bad with mine too but PS-6 had a far worse latency.

Generally, I use the poly setting. If I’m in the TonePrints, I alternate between the smooth bass and the default organ.

I experience no latency at all. Active 6er, with the SnU first in my chain, right after the wireless receiver.

I have it - well the mini version

Can't seem to get the "reverby" kind of sound out of it - Tracks great but yeah

I think it gets reverby when you use dry + ocataves. Actually it's more delay-ish, dry passes in realtime and then with a bit of delay the synthesized octave kicks in, and when you stop your note, it takes the same time to stop the octave as it took to start generating it. I think som presets have larger lag. That would explain how some TBers dont find the lag problematic and some, like myself, are thinking about selling it.

I use the Mini with only octave up in front of a distortion for doubling during guitar solos, never noticed any lag or latency with the stock poly toneprint.

I got the Sub'n'Up recently and like it a lot. I also got the Toneprint app, but I think it's pretty annoying that they hardly describe the sounds of the several toneprints. It's so much blabla about the artists and how fantastic the toneprint is, but to have an impression of how it sounds I need to load it into the pedal - which means I have to try every single toneprint if I'm looking for a certain sound. So maybe talkbass can help me:
I'm looking for quite a synthy sound with a thick and subby but tight lower octave, resembling of a sine wave and with a strong oomph at ~60hz. The higher octave should be flute-like, maybe slightly mellotronic or like a softly modulated triangle wave. Can someone recommend me a toneprint for this?
