Teacup Knobs Wont Fit?

Hi! i ordered teacup knobs from ALLPARTS.com. I emailed them to check if they would fit the Hofner B Bass HI Series, and yhey told me they would fit.
so they came in the mail today. I took off the stock black knobs and expected the teacups to push right on but they wont? I tried taking of the hexagon screw thing that was under the stock knobs and that resulted in the controls to fall in the bass. I got the conrols back up and put the hexagon bolt thing back on.
So how do i put the teacups on my bass?

What the heck are "teacup" knobs? All the instrument knobs I've seen either press on to a split, splined shaft; or use a set screw. Knobs with set screws can go onto either a splined shaft or a plain one. If it's a splined knob, there's a difference between the ones that go on Fenders and the types that are fitted to Gibsons.

See if there's a small screw on the side of the knobs.

How did you remove the original knobs? Did they just pull off? If so, you have a splined shaft. If you had to loosen a screw on the side of the knob, then you have a set-screw type. Hopefully the new knobs are the same type? I would assume they are just press-on, and if they won't fit, then they may not be the right size for the shafts you have.

Can you post a pic of the bare shaft with the knob upside down sitting beside it?

I have the All Part teacup knobs on my B-Bass Hofner. Had no issues at all. They do not press on - you have to loosen the set screw! I line up the set screw with the split in the pot shaft (that sounds strange?) so as not to bend the shaft. Good luck!

Does your knob look like this knob?

That little screw needs to be loosened to get it on then tightened again to keep in place.

If the screw looks like the ones on these knobs you will need a small one of Invalid Link Removed.

If no screw at all then it is pressed on and held by pressure. If impossible to press on the spline on your pot might be too far apart and will need to be pushed together a bit with some pliers.

Cool knob btw. Good luck.
