Had my Trace elliot GP7SM 130watt combo for a while now. I love the tone and punch i get from this amp.
made mid 90s by Trace Elliot before gibson and peavy had their way!

Cool beans.... keep tweakin on it... I can't seem to NOT constantly adjust my settings.
Not because I can't find a tone I like ...
but, because there are soooo many to choose from.
I like this setting for this sound, that setting for that sound, etc....
2 preset EQ choices plus a switchable graphic EQ that you can blend with or without either of the presets, or run completely unEQed.... just thinking about it makes me wanna go play my bass....![]()

Trace: What 1818 cabs do you have? Are they new ones or older ones? Are the older ones even called 1818's? -Luke
Yup, my bad, those cab model numbers do my head in. What on earth is the 3 for anyway? That's an 1153T cab for the match.
When you stack same model speaker cabs you also get a free 6db gain in volume on top of the gain when adding speakers.
Must be stacked vertically or horizontally, but, not separated or you lose the 6db gain.![]()
To keep 2 from banging into 4.What on earth is the 3 for anyway?
So, will he work on TE or just... oh, wait, NM... I see what you're saying.. They referring tech is leery of TE... got it.Yup, my bad, those cab model numbers do my head in. What on earth is the 3 for anyway? I don't know. Sometimes I wonder how they come up with the ODD model numbers myself...
While we're talking numbers, my 15" is the big arsed version, almost same size as the 4x10. I think it must be a 1518? as in 15", 1 of, 8 ohms?
Correct unless it's a mix size cab..
1048 - 10" x 4 @ 8 ohm
1518 - 15" x 1 @ 8 ohm
1818 - 18" x 1 @ 8 ohm.. These are all matching cabs in size & shape.
1088 ... You guessed it - 10" X 8 @ 8 ohms.
The 1028 1153 cabs are matching in themselves but match their full size cousins width wise when stacked sidewise with those ones, just shorter.
1510 15" + 10" (assume 8 ohm lol)
The new stuff like...
1084 - 10" x 8 @ 4 ohm, etc....
Stack them vertically for better projection of bass throughout the room. I think it's 6dB total from doubling cabs, assuming you have the power to drive them, which all these "wee" trace amps have in spades. I sure like the extra fullness of sound and having the 2nd cab up at ear level is nice too.
What I read is (as you know) you get more volume with more speakers...
But, when they are STACKED vert or Horz (touching) you get an extra 6DB on top of the gain by adding speakers(physics - 2 speakers moving the same air theory).
In the article (wish I could find it quickly for you to read), the OP stated that if you separate them (I assume more than a couple feet as he explained) you loose that 6db and only get the "normal" increase in volume.
And in other news, I got a recommendation last night for a good amp tech for sending my sick baby to. The guy who recommended him builds his own simple amps but rightfully leary of the Trace.
That's gotta sound sweeeeeeet! The 1818 will definitely make a difference.Thats what I do. I stack my 1x15" over my 4x10". Im looking for a 1x18" to replace the 15" to level out the projection. I tune my low B to A,so the 18" would work better especially the 1818 which goes to 28 hz. -Luke
The rack ears are part of the faceplate or should be... like on mine...I just bought this TE pre-amp only. Where do you get rack ears? It's still in UPS hands till Monday, but the tracking number says shipping weight is 42 lbs.? For a preamp?
