Cool beans.... keep tweakin on it... I can't seem to NOT constantly adjust my settings.
Not because I can't find a tone I like ...
but, because there are soooo many to choose from. :hyper:
I like this setting for this sound, that setting for that sound, etc.... :D
2 preset EQ choices plus a switchable graphic EQ that you can blend with or without either of the presets, or run completely unEQed.... just thinking about it makes me wanna go play my bass.... :D

Definately. I've always had Peavey and Ampeg power amps and they are fairly versatile too, especially Peavey's, but the Trace has some crazy tonal ranges. I only get to use it about once a week since it's over at the practice spot, so I'm always short on time to keep playing with it,lol. -Luke

It sounds good now, but put another cabinet with it and you'll be gobsmacked. There are a few matching 1158 cabs floating about.

Trace: What 1818 cabs do you have? Are they new ones or older ones? Are the older ones even called 1818's? -Luke

They have always been the same model numbers (1048/H, 1518, 1153, 1818 etc) since Pre Gibson (mine have the red stripes (RS).
Peavey has changed the model of the 1153 to 1518C (c= compact) but upped the power handling (on all models AFAIK) to accommodate the higher powered heads AH1000-12 & AH600-12, AH600/AH1200sm/smx, etc.

The 1518 went from 300 to 500 watts
The 1048H went from 400 to 800 watts
I know as I just put a Direct Replacement driver in my RS 1518 from BAS. Celestion TE 15" 500 watt 8ohm.

That's an 1153T cab for the match. :D

When you stack same model speaker cabs you also get a free 6db gain in volume on top of the gain when adding speakers.
Must be stacked vertically or horizontally, but, not separated or you lose the 6db gain. :(
Yup, my bad, those cab model numbers do my head in. What on earth is the 3 for anyway?

While we're talking numbers, my 15" is the big arsed version, almost same size as the 4x10. I think it must be a 1518? as in 15", 1 of, 8 ohms?

Stack them vertically for better projection of bass throughout the room. I think it's 6dB total from doubling cabs, assuming you have the power to drive them, which all these "wee" trace amps have in spades. I sure like the extra fullness of sound and having the 2nd cab up at ear level is nice too.

And in other news, I got a recommendation last night for a good amp tech for sending my sick baby to. The guy who recommended him builds his own simple amps but rightfully leary of the Trace.

Correct unless it's a mix size cab..
1048 - 10" x 4 @ 8 ohm
1518 - 15" x 1 @ 8 ohm
1818 - 18" x 1 @ 8 ohm.. These are all matching cabs in size & shape.
1088 ... You guessed it - 10" X 8 @ 8 ohms. :hyper:

The 1028 1153 cabs are matching in themselves but match their full size cousins width wise when stacked sidewise with those ones, just shorter.

1510 15" + 10" (assume 8 ohm lol)

The new stuff like...
1084 - 10" x 8 @ 4 ohm, etc....

What I read is (as you know) you get more volume with more speakers...
But, when they are STACKED vert or Horz (touching) you get an extra 6DB on top of the gain by adding speakers(physics - 2 speakers moving the same air theory).
In the article (wish I could find it quickly for you to read), the OP stated that if you separate them (I assume more than a couple feet as he explained) you loose that 6db and only get the "normal" increase in volume.

And in other news, I got a recommendation last night for a good amp tech for sending my sick baby to. The guy who recommended him builds his own simple amps but rightfully leary of the Trace.
So, will he work on TE or just... oh, wait, NM... I see what you're saying.. They referring tech is leery of TE... got it.

Thats what I do. I stack my 1x15" over my 4x10". Im looking for a 1x18" to replace the 15" to level out the projection. I tune my low B to A,so the 18" would work better especially the 1818 which goes to 28 hz. -Luke
That's gotta sound sweeeeeeet! The 1818 will definitely make a difference.

I don't see 1818's available very often....
I sense some purchasing competition ...:D JK

I use an old ported Ampeg B2 combo 1x15" without the head over my 1048H. Its an amazing sounding cab. More punch than any cab Ive owned and there have been many. The only setup I liked as much were my Aguilar GS212s stacked. Im long awaiting the 1818 addition Trace! It will really be useful with my synthesizer. -Luke

I just bought this TE pre-amp only. Where do you get rack ears? It's still in UPS hands till Monday, but the tracking number says shipping weight is 42 lbs.? For a preamp?
The rack ears are part of the faceplate or should be... like on mine...

42 lbs.. DIM weight for box size... standard gouging by FedEx/UPS/USPS.
