NOPE NOPE NOPE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The outputs are labeled 8 OHM Which means each out must be no lower than 8 ohms.

The internal crossover splits the signal so you can run a 10" cab Ch A and 15/18 cab on Ch B with the proper freqs going to appropriate cab.
But you can NOT run a 4 ohm load on either output.

Good Lord. It's two output jacks in parallel, one amp, rated 250W RMS with a 4 ohm load. You can plug in any combination that adds up to 4 ohms or more.

I have the exact same amp but I blew up the preamp the other day plugging a lead in the wrong socket at the back.

The quoted RMS must be at some very low level of distortion. It slays my 300W power amp which I have verified puts out 300w at the onset of clipping.
I'm thinking it's got to be 250w @ 8ohm and 500 @ 4 ohm.

It says 250 w and 500 w peak. Plus the 2 - 8 ohm outs.
It's just not labeled 4 ohm min load. ( that's what I suspect anyways.)

If it was 250 w peak at 8 ohm, it would say 250 w peak and have only one 8 ohm out. That only makes sense. Plus the fact it says peak 500w proves that 250 is not peak.

I would just like to know positively.

Peak watts is a non-spec in any amp. Even RMS is a bit shaky. Rest assured 250 trace watts is the boomfyest 250W you will ever hear.

I'm talking about a total minimum load for both parallel outputs at the same time. -Luke

you are talking about VS's amp here, yes? ... Because I know 8 ohm is the lowest for each out on my amp. But there are two 8 ohm outputs on mine.... can they both have an 8 ohm cab in them running an overall 4 ohm load. The amp says nowhere if it will safely run on 4 ohm load.

It's just Trace Elliot way of doing things. The 8 ohm jacks are wired parallel. Quid pro quo two 8 ohm cabs is a 4 ohm load. I guess they assume too much. It is all in the manual that coame with the amp.

If you bought a 4 ohm cab the manual with it would tell you to only plug one of them per channel into a trace amp. There are only a few 4 ohm trace cabs.

AFAIK, it is perfectly safe to run "1" 4 ohm cabinet into the amp. Definately not two of them though. -Luke

"For example, for an amplifier rated at 4 ohms minimum safe load you could run it with one 8 ohm cabinet, two 8 ohm cabinets (for a net load of 4 ohms), or one 4 ohm cabinet."

Didn't get the manual with the amp...
I just have one downloaded from the interwebs. And it doesn't say what the "Min Ohm Load" is.
So I am correct then in assuming it is
safe to run... 2 - 8 ohm cabs @ 4 ohms or 1 - 4 ohm cab @ 4 ohms.

I just don't know why it's not labeled on the back??

One could argue that in 1996 nobody owning a 4 ohm, 500W peak capable bass cabinet needed telling not to plug two of them into an amp that said ok to plug in but two 8 ohm cabs. Between the instructions on their cab input panels, and the amp instruction manuals, they have every other angle covered .

Correct. If you use BOTH outputs, the cabs must be AT LEAST 8 ohm or higher.
I've read the manual and it looks like you can go to 4 ohms on ONE output only...
That said ... your specific model is NOT included in the list of models this manual covers.
It covers from AH300 and up.
I have not been able to find a manual for the 130, 150, 200 or 250 watt models.... in years.

In the "Better Safe Than Sorry" category...

I would not run a 4 ohm cab in an 8 ohm output until I got confirmation from Gibson/TE Tech Support (don't call Peavey - call Gibson TS),
A qualified tech that can LOOK at the amp and tell,
read a manual for THAT model, etc.

Now there is the possibility that someone ran two 4 ohm cabs in it already...
I forget ... how long did you play through it before you bought it?

Relax man, it's all good at 4 ohm. I've got the same amp open on my kitchen table. Parallel output jacks.

:D that's what I needed to know.
And you said you have run it at 4 ohms. Yes?

DUW- here is the only manual I have.

It was made in 01/'96. I purchased it used in 1998 from a music shop in Victoria, BC. No idea hour many hours on it, or how hard it was worked prior to my owning it.
It was minty new looking... came with a T.E. cover for the head, and rack ears. And was priced very good. I played through it a few times, maybe two hours total before I bought it. I didn't wait too long before pulling the trigger. TFDS :p

It's solid state, doesn't give a rat's () about idling with no load. Has it got "preamp out" or "line out" on it though? You might have to get a tech to tap into it. Not a big job methinks.

You didn't say what you were using it for, maybe get away with the DI? I'm pretty sure they all come with those.
