TecAmp amplification club.....is there such a thing yet

Makes sense.

Per my previous point, remember, wattage has little to do with volume. It is all about having the appropriate wattage for a given cabinet that will allow you to play dynamically without hitting the limiting of the amp. You are correct that 150 or 200 more watts will not be very noticable regarding absolute volume, but it can literally change your life when you are digging in at the end of the night:)

It all depends on absolute wattage also, not just the 'increase'. Going from 500 to 700 watts, for most, is not really noticable, since most cabs can't even handle the 500 watts. However, going from 175 watts to 300 watts at 8ohms can be the difference between 'Ok' and 'Great'.

I took home my EBS Reidmar amp that use to be at my rehearsal room and hooked it up to my two Aguilar SL´s. In the rehearsal room it drives a EBS Neo 212. Anyway I got very suprised by the sound with the Reidmar and the Aggies. Haven´t tried that setup. My Puma 500 have to go to the rehearsal room and the EBS Reidmar staying home with my modular rig. More tubelike open sounding with a touch of more open air string sound

+1 Sunday I was doing a jazz gig in a tough room (lots of glass). Ended up being a loud crowd as unbeknownst to us the wrap party for Raging Bull 2 was booked there. Between the taste and the two mid eqs I could dial in great tones on both the Rob Allen and Fodera despite the room. The head continues to impress. As did the leggy eye candy that permeated the room. Luckily my fiancé was cool with me be occasionally distracted, and she didn't look out of place in that crowd (double lucky me).

. . . and the Black Jag 900 arrived today. can't wait to get home and plug in. i may need to tell the boss i feel "sick" before 5pm ;)

read through the manual, and as i hoped, it can be run safely with no speaker load for recording. dope!

i thought the power module adjusts were universal. my bad.

so far, i can honestly say the jag looks nice in plastic, and will keep a cardboard box from floating off a cubicle desk :cool:

Dang, I may have gotten a bad apple. Glenn at Austin Bass Traders spent some time with me going over possible issues. The problem is that I get an occasional crackle/distortion that comes through in the upper mids. It sounds like electrical static/noise. Plugged into my 15/6 fEARful, the mid-driver gets most of the crackle, however it also shows up on my Mesa PH 115. The crackle is on and off, and I can't link it to any one specific cause. Sometimes it goes away and the sound is awesome and crystal clean, but other times it comes back in the middle of playing. Sometimes turning an EQ knob makes it go away, but it keeps coming back. The shipping box looked good, so I don't see any signs of FedEx abuse.

I've tried turning the Rock and Compression off. I've turned all the knobs and flipped all the switches to burn off any corrosion, but no luck. I tried running it through two different cabs, using 1/4" and speakon, and gone through each of the three outputs. I switched instrument cables and basses with no lasting luck.

Any suggestions before I call it quits and box it up for a swap?

and just after I post how much I love my Puma500, I'm moving up to the 900. :D No reason at all. My volume knob has never gone past 9 o' clock, but what the heck. Bigger is better, right? Well, that's how I rationalize it. :smug: I'm looking forward to doing an A/B to see if there are any noticeable differences. Then I'll be putting one on the chopping block to spread the Puma love! I want more people to find out how awesome these little amps are!!

+1, although I believe that was more of a choice in preamp voicing than the power module, which shouldn't really impact tone.

I believe the change to the ICE power modules was a reliability choice, and the revoicing from 'fat and uber hi fi' to a more traditional, punchy tone (i.e., less extreme low end extension and a bit more 'character' in the midrange) was a choice baked into the preamp.

The original 350 was a totally different beast with a class A/B power section. It is now just a less powerful choice within the Puma 350/500/900 line.

The 1000 is again a strange beast to me, with the power module change. Can't imagine many choosing that over the 900 at this point.

Most amp failures/problems happen right out of the box. I would have swapped that out for a new one the second I heard a problem. No brainer, IMO. Get a new one and be happy!
