I was killing time and looking at different preamps and such to warm up my sound and so I was on the Tech 21 site when I happened upon this:

They don't have much info about it but I'm very interested. I wonder how much it is. (probably a lot:hmm:)
What do y'all think?

It looks very cool. Although I think I would prefer it in a 1U rack mount unit not in a wooden headcase. Pricewise I bet it would be similar to TBer JGR's all tube pre-amp which is a tad over 1K. I love tech 21's stuf and at this moment have a BDDI, VT Deluxe and Oxford on my board. I've also used a RBI in the past as well. They make damn good gear, and I have never had a problem with one.

i have little interest in anything that Tech21 offers even if one of their pedals carries the name of my home town. That pre is huge in comparison to some Class D heads. Passive cut only EQ is also of no interest. The price is in the range of some of the full tube heads. All in all no thank you.

Tech 21 could screw up a wet dream.
Once again they have no idea what would actually be useful, or usable.
Who wants a tube preamp the size of a tube amp at nearly the same price?
So many of their products are like 90% of the way to great but fall short on that last detail.

I would say that in the case of this particular pre-amp, it's not ment for the average consumer. As far as some of their other products, I completly disagree with your statement. I love the SANSAMP line quite a bit.

I can agree with that, this is definitely not for everyone. The oversized case is just excessive and pointless excuse to add "value."
The assessment of the product line as a whole is just my opinion of course. I love their ideas, just not their execution.

Just a friendly counter... while the Sansamp line is fantastic, their more recent VT Bass Head seems to be a complete flop. They did everything the customers asked, but then slapped on a price tag that rivaled that of an actual Ampeg SVT-CL. At that point, it was pretty universally accepted that would-be-buyers would rather get the real deal rather than Tech21's offering. That, or get a VT deluxe and a power amp from Crest, Crown, or QSC (which would offer more programmable channels, more watts, more preamp options if one wanted a change... and all at a cheaper price).

Make no mistake, Tech21 is a fantastic company that boasts an impressive product line, but they sometimes fail very hard. It's one thing to have a flop, but it's another to have an almost perfect product but screw it up because of pricing or because of practicality reasons.
