Tech 21 all tube preamp???

They used carbon film (not comp), but the overall compents are pretty generic and certainly don't reflect the price. Agree metal film is the way to go.

Ahh fair enough, either way I'd avoid them for most applications! There's no way that that transformer would perform very well below 100Hz under load either.

For that price point aswell you'd atleast expect some regulation, looks like no thought has really gone into the power supply.

The wiring looks good though

While I agree with the majority sentiment in this thread, in all fairness no one has heard one yet. I imagine not many people ever will.

Fair enough. You are absolutely correct. I haven't heard it. However, if it DOES sound very different from traditional tube preamps, or amps, then I'm sure we can agree that tube guys won't like it. Traditional sound is pretty much the POINT of tube amps. That's WHY we use such out-dated technology to get the sound we like. And if it DOES have a traditional sound (which, again, is the point) then it won't change the world for $2,000 and no power section.

So, in my view, it's really a no win. It's either too different, or too expensive.

Don't forget too big. ;)
