Most of the time, I bypass the EQ of my old Ashdown MAG 250 115 combo by using the disable switch and running my programmable BDDI straight into the effects return. When I do use the EQ, I set it flat except I bump the mids very slightly. Either way, it sounds great.

Anyone try that new SansAmp Character Series "VT Bass" pedal?

I just picked up a VT Bass this week. Man, this is one sweet effect that my granny would say "does just what it says on the label!"

It really is a sound enhancement, and truth to tell, the first and only effect that I've ever considered actually using instead of just trying out for a while then discarding -- maybe even as an "always on" if experience leads me in that direction. It's a real kick to completely flatten the amp EQ and just let the thing do what it does so well -- a high-quality-sounding variety of classic tube bass-amp emulations.

Very nice piece of work!

I've been using a BDDI very successfully in my home studio, and I still use it as an extra in my live rig (Ampeg SVT-Pro, Symetrix 501 comp, BBE 362 maximiser, Peavey power amp). I use it to provide some extra growl at those critical moments...

I've somehow managed to put a bass rig together that sounds exactly like I want it to, without ever even trying out ANY Sansamp products. Always wanted the origianl DI box, but never did get one. It can be done, though I'm still tempted by the VT pedal.

Added to the stable: Tri-AC programmable. Awesome little 3-in one distortion that sounds about as good on bass as it does guitar. I finally _get_ the Marshall tone. Adds a bit of liveliness to my Ibanez Promethean P5110 combo that was otherwise sorely missed!

I didn't know how to vote, I like 'em -- but, didn't feel so strongly in either direction. My 1st experience with Sans Amp was in the studio with a BDDI. At first -- I absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this lil gem. But, upon playback & further inspection -- I (along with the producer/engineer) really started hearing too much grind & we ditched it for the rest of the session. I've tried to like the PBDDI a few times, but it just seemed "lacking" compared to the BDDI. I don't know if that was just my ears or what, but I never got a great vibe from it -- so, it never stayed.

Now I've got myself a VT Bass (like almost every other TB'er) & I really enjoy it. I've used it going into SWR W'man's 12, Ampeg SVT > Ampeg 8x10, and I've even used it with my Ampeg B-15R. I recently picked up a Markbass LMT800 & it's great with that too.

All that being said, there have been plenty of times that a Sans Amp product has saved the day. And, maybe I should look into picking up another BDDI.... wait a minute, I think I just figured out which way to vote...

I like to use mine when I don't have my amp (a 300w tube head).

It sounds "tubey"... but with a lot of agression on it. My tube head sounds very vintage-tone (a la Wettton-Paul Pones, etc), but the BDDI sound really agressive and colours every crappy solid state amp...

When I have my tube head, I use my BDDI as a second EQ and "Crunch" effect.

PD: by the way, mine's not a Tech21's BDDI... it's an DIY with some mods.
