Tech 21 AR3-B foot switch no longer working

Hey, once again I really appreciate all the help you gave me with this. I can at least rest assured that it’s not coming from the amp itself, so I’ll pick up a multimeter and take it from there, meaning I’ll most likely end up taking you up on the offer.
have a great rest of your evening/morning and an even better tomorrow.
Technically it could still be an amp-side problem as it's not sensing the resistor-ladder changes/sending the LED voltage, but that is pretty unlikely. Zooming in I see at least one diode of some sort, so there's a few more parts to that circuit than JUST a resistor ladder it seems, but still looks pretty basic/simple based on the visible PBC traces.

I don't think you should have to unsolder anything to look at more stuff. Those footswitches should come off the faceplate somehow, whether a nut on the front side or a spring retention on the back side I'd hope. It'd be pretty weird to have 'permenant' installed footswitches, but who knows what crazy engineers might do sometimes :roflmao:

I will warn, if you have to start unsoldering stuff I'd stop before doing that and hit me up. At that point you could do more damage from unsoldering without the right tools (my desoldering gun alone was ~$250).

Have a good evening and happy holidays!

Reactions: The Mackie
I just happened to tinker with the tip & gnd posts and in the course of doing so I managed to reset the pedal and get it activated again. I’m usually a bit of a glass half full kind of guy when it comes to gear and most things mechanical, so I’m treating this as simply a lark, but for the moment I’m just stoked that the pedal is working at the present moment.

Happy holidays!

Awesome! Then it sounds like the jack might need replaced eventually (or the solder connections themselves just need resoldered). It's odd that the safety pin to solder points worked but the pedal didn't, a bad jack was exactly what that test was for.

Jacks do wear down over time, the metal becomes less springy/makes weaker connections. If you remove the cable from your footswitch, you can gently push in on those metal plates to re-bend them and make a little better connection.

And here's a replacement jack if you want to go that far/get one ordered to have on hand. Really any 1/4" mono jack would work, but this is an exact replacement from what I can see:
