Can it get a metal tone? With deep bass and grindy high end?
My band's not exactly metal, but we are really aggressive, and I get a killer grind out of mine, especially when I double up the VT and my ART Tube PAC mic preamp. I'm getting a ton of low end, nice grindy mids that cut through without being overpowering, and enough treble zing that everything is nice and clear.

I haven't played one but it's next on my list of purchases (if I can find one locally to play thru before I purchase). My comment wasn't intended to imply it's not a great pedal, it was more of a commentary on the fickle TB crowd. ;)
Yeah, they're pretty insane...me, I'm perfectly normal and well-adjusted :D:help:

I think something that's interest about the VT is that it's a unique pedal that IMHO sounds even 'better' in a mix than it does alone. Really like it alone. Love it with the band.

I totally agree, at least with the settings I've been using. Done some recording last week, but I only listened back through headphones and it sounded pretty good with just bass and drums through them. Got to listening back to the same stuff tonight through monitor speakers, just didn't sound nearly as good. It really worried me, I was panicing that I'd have to record everything again with different settings, once out guitarist had his parts down.

Turns out, with the whole band playing (minus singer), it sounded exactly how I wanted it too in the first place (through monitor speakers this time). Very strange, can't say that's ever happened to me before. Beauftiful pedal.

Nice sound, what equipment did you record it with? And what setting on the VT?Really liked the sound though, nice and heavy.

5-string bass -> VT Bass -> TASCAM DR-1 (recorded in .wav then converted via LAME to .mp3).

VT Settings:

Level: unity gain
Mid: 2:00
Character: just a tad below 2:00
Drive: fully clockwise
Low: Just a hair below 3:00
High: 9:00

I actually use the VT for a very light overdrive tone but I wanted to do a clip where it got some real gritty OD while still being heavy in tone. Glad you like. I'm liking the versatility of this pedal a lot.

Got here a day early and I'm loving it!

Here are some clips. All recorded via headset mic (im poor...) on my b2r+bse410h+bse115. '78 Ibanez Silver Series P, volume at 75%, tone at 20%.

Clips are a little quiet, so you may have to turn up your headphones a bit.

Affected. Didn't take me very long to find a sound I like given some of the examples already listed here and in the manual. Level is at about 10-11 o'clock, Lows at 1 o'clock, Mids at about 2 o'clock, highs at noon, Character at about 10 o'clock, and Drive at 11 o'clock.

Hi this is just a bit of a demo of how my VT Bass is sounding "in the mix".
The first link is to a 54 second clip from last nights gig at the Espy in St Kilda Australia.
It was recorded on my trusty old zoomH2 which was sitting on the bar in front of the singers girlfriend so it's not top quality but it sounds OK to me.

The bass is going through a VT Bass pedal and then out a LM2 head through the built-in balanced out of the head (apparently not the best but I'm still saving for a radial JDI :) ).
So anyway just thought you might like to hear how my bass is sitting in the band environment now with the VT. Warning: Bum note at 0:28!

LM2 - everything at noon, filters off.
Thunderbird: neck PU 6, Bridge PU 8, Tone 5

VT settings in o'clock:
LEVEL: 10
LOW: 1
MID: 1:30
HIGH: 12
CHARTR: 10:30
DRIVE: 10

he he and this one is another testament to the VT Bass and a great ego boost to me. People don't realise the zoom is there so I get to hear a lot of interesting comment about the band after the show.
This one is nice though and gave me a big head. It's someone in the audience talking about how good my sound is... :)

Thank you Tech 21! :)

quick question: has anyone been able to get "dookie" era green day tones out of the VT?

i know a lot of that tone comes from the G3 he had at the time and a good whack with a pick, but is the VT capable with a hot single coil pickup?
Mike Dirnt has said that Dookie was cut entirely on a Precision and he only used the G3 at shows. But yeah, getting that sound is cake.

Ok got a bit of a problem you guys might be able to help me with. I notice it more on my Lakland than my P-bass... but when I hit certain rather-resonant notes, my the peak light on my amp comes on pretty hardcore and I get this nasty sound start to come out of my speakers. Do I need to just turn down the Level a bit on the pedal? Too much input signal coming in to the amp?

Thanks.

edit: It's definitely NOT the "overdrive" sound of the pedal.
