I have trouble recording Joe Principe-like tones because when I scoop hard it gets "muffly". Obviously I don't have a professional recording studio. You hear those tones a lot in punk and metal. For sure you need a good rig and they scoop out, or cut the mids with some distortion. The VT works good for this obviously because the tube distortion sounds thicker and not just fizzy.

recorded through an amp and picked a further from the bridge, and im 100% sold. that was pretty close to what im thinking of, and i think the only way to get it closer is with a few thousand dollars worth of gear.

edit: perhaps a more hefty wallop with a pick and a stack of 10's (and some studio processing) could get nearly perfect core-principe tones.

I was playing around a little more tonight and remembered reading an article about Van Halen maxing out all the tone controls on his Marshall to get his sound. So I thought I'd try it with the VT. Sounds extremely fat, IMHO. Just be sure to start with your Level all the way down. Maxing the tone controls works best with lower drive settings and in the first half of the character knob.

This is a killer pedal and to think that I thought I'd never get one after hearing the BassPlayer.tv samples.

I returned mine today. I would have kept it but a killer deal came up on a lefty Precision and I needed the cash. I had it for almost a month and still prefer the Fulltone Bassdrive for a light overdrive. Knowing me though, I will buy another one when I can swing the cash.

I use mine w/ my SVTII & V4BH... as said- it really just gives U another option. Often I leave it on all the gig, other times I use it as either another clean sound or as a OD pedal. I can get it to sound virtually the same as either the V4BH or the SVTII -when played thru these amps- :-) & so is nice to be able to set it as a likeness of either of these amps -at break up point!!!
