Telecaster GUITAR pickups in a bass?

Could I put a Telecaster guitar pickup in the bridge position of a bass? I'm building an Esquire bass and plan on keeping to Esquire vibe, so this'll be a single pup bass. I was planning on using a humbucker (like a stacked single coil) I'm not worried about pole piece alignment, etc, I'll get a blade pup or something. So, quick conclusion, can I use a Telecaster bridge pup in my bass?

Yes. The classic example is the identical lipstick tube p.ups found in both Danelectro (and Jerry Jones) guitars and basses.

This one has a Bill Lawrence tele keystone in the bridge. Sounds pretty cool. I have to eq my amp differently then I do with my other basses, but it has a nice vibe for sure.
