Saw a live show on TV and kinda liked it. The big radio hit they have now is cool (love the big riff section towards the end) and heard a song called Knights of Cydonia that is pretty cool as well (another great riff section towards the end).

What songs and albums should I check out?

Depends on what you like.
I'm a huge mues fan myself, and chris wolstenholme is pretty much the reason why I started playing.
I'd definately check out Origin of Symmetry, and Absolution. Songs like Space Dementia, Hysteria (of couse), and Hypermusic. The first albums are more dark, while the two lates, especially the latest are more "happy".

black holes and revelations is their best album, buy it and you won't be disappointed. take a bow, starlight, supermassive blackhole, knights of cydonia, hysteria, cave, feeling good, and time is running out are all great songs you could d/l (those came off the top of my head, there are others as well).

Lol, this thread is a timebomb waiting to explode, I actually didnt know what the hubbub was about either, I'd heard hysteria and time is running out, Knights, the usual. My fiance was the one who really turned me on to muse, she loves muse, I listened to origin of symmetry and was an immediate fan, not stuff you can just listen to constantly or for chillin, just amazing music you hafta listen to good, with headphones.

I've only been listening to Muse since Xmas. I was turned on to them by all the ZOMG What Pedalz Chriz WoHome Uze on these Songz threads in the FX subforum.

FWIW I really dig CW's use of blending effects with a clean tone,...but that's for another forum.

OoS is good from start to finish. New Born is good and so is Bliss. I really like Bliss.

Black Holes and Revelations is a great album,...City of Delusion is an awesome song. I first heard Knights of Cydonia on one of the Guitard Heroes. It's a bad*** song too.

Absolution is a good tune as is the album itself,...I live the arpeggio picking in the chorus part.

I like the first few tracks off of The Resistance.

The band itself seems like a cross pollination of Queen, Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine.

Well if you are more into rock music, youd Love a lot of the songs on Absolution. Black Holes and Revelations has a more electronic/rock fusion thing going on if thats more your style. The Resistence is verry trippy, but if you enjoy bands like Radiohead (which, btw, Bellemy hates being compared too) its a very well put together album.

Me? Im a hard-rocker, so its all about Absolution. Stockholm Syndrome is tha ****!!! Cant wait to see them next week!

Muse are amazing, they're brilliant in their live shows. You should watch them live @ Wembley stadium on Youtube. There new album The Resistance is more pop type music than rock. All their other albums lean more towards rock. They mix a lot if different genres of music though so listen to a good few songs before you decide on them. Hysteria has an awesome bass line, although a bit repetitive.

Showbiz - finding their voice, some partially justified partially unfair radiohead comparisons due to the falsetto vocals and indie-esque songs. this was before the money kicked in, matt is using peavey wolfgangs and les paul studios with pedals taped to them. muscle museum and sunburn are great songs.

O of Sym - breakthrough album in europe, promotes the band to headline status and they start filling 10,000 seater venues, heres where the prog starts to come through, songs get longer and more epic, with killer riffs (plug in baby, newborn, feeling good etc) matt is using custom mansons soon after...

Hullabloo - live dvd/cd, some would argue this is their live peak, and with good cause. I saw them twice on this tour and they were excellent. this is where the big arena spectacle begins....

Absolution - level par with OoS, prog is proggier, riffs are riffier, more epic themes. this album was recorded 10 mins away from where i live! saw them on this tour too, albeit in a smaller venue....

Black holes - some would say a mis step, muse fans at this point baulked at supermassive blackhole, was this a new britney spears single? it wasnt so bad though, some great songs, cydonia included, didnt this break them in the states? promoted them to arena superstars over here.....festivals, glasto, wembley....

HAARP: if you'd never seen muse before, this would blow you away, and it is impressive, they're now the 21st century queen, but die hard fans still go back to hullabaloo...

The resistance - meh, whats gone wrong guys? bands producing themselves is not always a good idea....

my top 5 favorite songs by them are

5. plug in baby (origin of symmetry)
4. dead star (b-sides)
3. showbiz (showbiz)
2. take a bow (black holes)
1. futurism (origin of symmetry)

i can't stress enough how underrated futurism is hah but check out any of those. hope this helps :D
