Temptation - 18 month financing

I already got my full stack that way. I think Sam-Ash have had those kinda promotions for quite some time. Pretty sure I got my guitar rig and my trumpet in high school(on my dad's card mind you) with 15-18 month promos. I paid my dad who paid the card, good lesson in responsibility and still have that awesome gear to this day. Although the guitar amp may go towards more bass stuff now that it's my primary and I'm getting shows with it.

If you have the money at hand already it's not a bad deal. We have purchased a lot of things for the house with this type of financing. But only when we already have the money. Just know that you are tying your credit while you do this. Which is why we do this kind of deal when we have the money already in case we need to pay it in full if needed.

No temptation at all....if I can't pay cash for toys & gear, I'm not buying.

+1

The thought of taking on a legitimate debt (home mortgage) is bad enough to me; the idea of going into debt for something as trivial as gear seems absolutely insane to me.

Especially considering I've usually flipped it at used prices by 18 months, the thought of still making payments on it turns my stomach.

All IMO of course.

^Or credit union. The lure is typically the 18 month promo is 0% interest, which is great and you are disciplined and have the cash/will power to pay it off. After that time frame it does jump to a pretty insane interest rate(although I've seen banks/Capital one cards my friends/family had with similar rates). So as long as you can see the big picture in enhancing your credit and using it wisely instead of just new gear and low monthly payments(which will not pay it off in time) it's not a bad deal. Not necessarily a smart deal, but not a bad one.

I reserve credit for absolutely necessary items for which I have absolutely no way to pay otherwise. It means tools for my job, fridge or washing machine that goes boobies up, you get the drift.
That and house mortgage of course.

Getting in debt for hobby music gear is ridiculous.

36 month financing available on all Gibson starting next weekend at L&M. Luckily I am set for Gibson bass gear!

Watch the interest rates on all of these "deals" north and south of the border..... 18-36mo at 15-20% interest can be a killer!

Dear sweet mother of Mary - if they had that option at my local shop I'd have my entire basement decked out. EBMM and the SVT would already be here with the whole recording studio..

I wouldnt want to be paying the interest rate those prob have. If you want to use credit, its generally much better to get a major name cc (master card or visa) at lowest interest rate you can. Often ones bank is best place to start.

The 18 month plans are no interest or I wouldn't bother.

The bass I'm looking at costs $750, and over 18 months that comes out to about $42/month. I can handle that.
