I have been putting together a mini audio video rig, for the purpose of making simple live videos. I wanted at least HD video and decent sound that could be setup in a single shot, set and forget type setting.
I ended up with the following.
Canon Vixia HF R400 bought used at a local pawn shop for $100
Tascam DR-22WL Linear PCM recorder bought at Guitar Center price matched with B and H Photo
A cold shoe bracket, cold shoe tripod mount adapter and 1ft dual right angle 3.5mm audio cable. $20 from B and H
Put together it looks like this

One thing I had in mind when purchasing these items was that they all would have multiple uses besides this rig. The camera was chosen due to the good reviews and the fact that it has a microphone input. I Chose the Tascam because it's mics should be better than the one built into the camera and it has easily adjustable input gain controls.
I took it out last night and I am pretty pleased with the results of the maiden voyage of the rig. I need to use a better tripod in the future but this was the one I brought in with me since this was a test run. The Tascam did a great job in picking up the band and the camera did pretty well also even though it did not like some of the bands lights
Here is a sample vid form last night, only edits are the opening animations.
The bands PA was vocals only (this was an instrumental) so none of the amps or drums were miked
