Maybe the base of my question is not from this forum but my case is so I hope this stay here, ok here we go... my aunt is going to Mcallen I told her if she could buy for me a head obviously she said yes but well she knows nothing about music so she cannot try the head for herself, other issue $$$ I only have 1200 bucks I don't want to spend it all but well if its necessary so be it, another problem is "where to buy" for what I've read the place where you buy is an important factor to get better deals and save some money or getting something better of what you had in mind so my questions would be:

1 Which head for a maximum of 1200 (would have to be new) to play in a cover band, relaible, good volume (match a 200 watt guitar combo and a loud drummer) you get the idea (I'm planning to get a bunch of pedals by the way)

2 Where to buy (a place with good deals, if have seen something used there maybe I can think about it)

any suggestions and opinions are welcome just not take to long to suggest since she is leaving in a week =D thanks everybody and Merry Christmas

i recommend Ashdown. there a 300, 500, 575, and even 900 watt head, all of which are under 1200. all wattages are in 4 ohms, btw.

What kind of cab do you have???

I own a home made with one 600watts 4 ohms 15 inch Carvin speaker, planning to get an Ampeg SVT later but thinking about it if I could get a head and a cheap cabinet for de 1200 buck it would be perfect

as for heads,

and then buy a Schecter bass!

My first thought is to see if you could get a old stock SVT3. There are reported reliability issues with the newer ones since manufacturing moved.

agreed. but no "stores" are going to carry those i don't think....

Guitar Center will have all their old stock gone, but some of the smaller shops may still have stock.

i would doubt it. sadly. American made Ampeg is great stuff.

"most" of the China Ampeg is great too.

i like the SVT6Pro's..

They just opened a new GC in McAllen, out on expressway 83 west. They moved some stuff from the old store down there, and may have some good deals. I tried a Trace at the old store and it is sweet! 500 watt I believe, plus they,ve got a few Ampegs too.
Another dealer is on north 10th street called Melhart's, they stock some Genz stuff.

A GK 1001RB runs ~ $750 and the 700RB ~$600 (GC price, probably less from RMCaudio.com). I like these a lot, but your tastes could differ considerably from mine.

no, not really.

the 1001 is OCCASIONALLY a bit "growlier" than the 700.

Just checked the quote that I got from RMCaudio a little while ago and it's good. I won't post it because I'm sure their prices change. If you decide to go with the GK and have someone that can order for you, you will not beat their prices. Then your aunt would just have to carry the box.

Doubtful since it's not an "advertised price".

The guys here are all giving you great suggestions. However, I have a question. Why not order online? You can get a decent price and it will be shipped to your door. If that's a problem (shipping to Mexico), do you have any friends near the border you could ship it to? Anyways, these are just ideas.

As for another amp to consider. The Carvin B1500.
