I'm not into 6+ string basses myself, but this is a real looker! For some reason, the smaller Conklin'ish heastock really works great with the Fender lines of the body and guard.

Here's a small click of me tinkering with it. The new Bartolini pickup is working out. I think it's good to go. Still getting used to all those stings.

Interesting. Resurrecting this thread because I’m thinking of doing a custom build 10. Do you have the specs for the neck? Nut width, heel width? String spacing? Ironically I found a Dean for sale while searching so, I I grabbed it, but I really have a custom instrument in mind so, I doubt it’ll be a keeper

I also like the OP as it illustrates the cascading effect of all the little variables that go into the design of an instrument,
even one that appears "simple" (bolt-on, 1 pickup, Fender-style). This is often underestimated by players and clients.
A well-designed and successful bass has tons of little questions and details that have been worked out, most of which are never noticed by
most people, even the players. As the saying goes- "Good design is 99% invisible."

HOLY poopie! I was just looking up "10 string basses" and all I found were those ridiculous aircraft carrier necked things that are novelty ********...

THIS RIGHT HERE... NEEDS to be a production instrument!

I'd like it with a jazz bass pickup setup, please....

If I can find a scrap 5 string I'm totally going to do this myself...
