Double Bass TFB-550 and Epi UL 210 - great RaB set up

I ran my first Rockabilly gig this weekend.
Recently I down-sized from a mega-monster rig to save on loadin trips since I have to tote that Upright around.

I have the Thunderfunk TFB-550 (~15lbs 500w) and an Epifani UL 210 (~38lbs 500w rms).

My gosh, the whole rig weighs less than the lightest component of my old set up (my BagEnd D10B-D, which I kept for rehearsal space). More power than I needed for an outdoor carshow gig, singer, guitar, drums, and revving engines. I did run through the mains, but I was hardly in the mix.

Anyway, I cut the high and low mids, left the Low and High nobs at 12. Trimmed back on the Bass, and messed with the timbre as needed, but pretty much near 0. Enhance was a little past 12...and the tube a switch was off. I had a little bit of tweeter going on the cab.

Maybe it was the K&K RaB pre, or the kevlar core nylons, but everything clicked (pun intended).

Hello from the other side of the site! I can attest to this rig also sounding GREAT with EB also. Wonderful sound (the entire UL line is fabulous sounding), and the TF is the best head I've run across in a long time. My Walter Ultra has not been out of the house in a long long time since I purchased this amp.

hate it for upright. Go figure. Glad you've found a good
combo for your work. May you be happy with it for a

Actually, given the very wide voicing of the Epi210UL (versus the much tighter 112UL), I was surprised at the positive comments for DB. However, the TF's EQ is the most powerful available at the moment (IMO).. with standard bass and treble shelving controls, a four band semi-parametric EQ, and Timbre control (that is similar to the WW balance control but MUCH more powerful), an enhance control (similar to the Eden circuit) AND a switch that revoices the preamp (from a little more SS/Hi FI sounding to a little more 'tube warm and woolly). It's simply an amazing front end.

So, with that sort of EQ, there's probably plenty of control to reduce the low end bloom that comes out of that 210UL. For EB, it is amazing.

Yes. The 210UL is a great box for its size and weight.
Just not my favorite box for upright bass.
