I searched and searched here on TB,but it seems there currently isn`t an "official" TB Fender Musicmaster Bass Guitar Club. I would like to launch one (if there are no objections).

Actually,fellow TBer and Musicmaster owner,Bibbyfirst suggested it in his NB/NAD! [Musicmaster Bass & MM Amp]thread.

Therefore I reserve the #1 spot for Bibby.I`ll glady be #2 (bit of a sheet,y`know).

A club for owners of 1970/71-1981 FENDER (MIA) Musicmaster Bass Guitar(s).I love these lil 30" short scale,sorta wimpy basses! Originally utilizing surplus Fender Mustang Bass bodies,actual 6-pole stratocaster guitar pickups and were wired with an extra "blue"[?] capacitor to help mitigate the higher tones of the strat pickup.I`ve read this 2nd cap was wired in to be always "on".

Neck plate serial #:298236 is matches for a 1970/71,mfg at the Fullerton,CA factory.NOTE: Until such time as I check/match both the neck heel factory date stamp and the pots` serial #/code,I remain unsure of this Musicmaster`s vintage and/or pedigree.Here`s a couple of pics:

I think there are 2 main reasons I like the Musicmaster so much:

1.) It`s built around the too cool,old school Mustang Bass body,

2.) It`s a 30" short scale (also like the Mustang).

Love to read your opinions,see those cool MM pics and give you a membership number in The Official Fender Musicmaster Bass Club,so " c`mere, c`mere!!"

Open to any and all owners of the vintage FENDER models,whether in stock/original condition or sporting upgrades and modifications!

Which model year do you prefer(or do you?),CC088? Is there much,if any,of a weight/balance/playability difference between the `75/76 and the `78?

I have only had the '75-76 a few days --it is much lighter than the '78. I've noticed the body is thinner --and it has the smaller tuners, like yours. The '78 has an Aero Musicmasterer pup and replacement pots, jack, orange drop cap, etc. The '75-76 has replacement pots, jack, and a rewound original pup (to 7.65k by to Tom Brantley). I bought both from TBer's. The '75-76's body was refinished and relic'd (to match the neck wear). Not sure which I prefer --stay tuned.

My `71 is so light it kind of scares me.Like it`s a balsa wood toy or something. I like the sound of her *nose growing*,but can`t lie here...I feel the anemic bottom end(or lack thereof)when trying to play even 'HosMan House' loud...big time!! Literally .5 - .75 less bass umpf! comes through.

I had her strung with D`Addario CHOMES flatwounds (still breaking them in),but so far they are nice! I get some beautiful piano-like tones off the "D" and "G" strings in particular.

Not a Musicmaster,but his older brother- aka my cherished 1998 Fender MIA Standard P-Bass ('Wine' color/wht pearloid pg.) Back long ago,during the first time I "quit" trying to learn bass(partly due to life dumping on me,partly due to my being a royal weenie ).Anyways....

What year was your Musicmaster,Sparks?

Damn, some nice Musicmasters! I don't have any pictures of mine right now, but I will take some ASAP. I have a 1970/1971 Musicmaster. The neck is dated Dec 71, and the Body had a serial number of 299757, making it the earliest Musicmaster bass I've seen (is only story now because the neck plate was sold with the neck on eBay.). Currently running Chromes on it with the Aero Musicmasterer pickup, is one of my favorite tones ever. The only things I have left to do to fix it up is shield the pickup, fix a buzzing first fret (I think it's a worn out fret, will bring it to guitar tech soon), and should probably refinish it. It looks all nice with the original wood (It looks like it has a 2 piece body?!), but it was originally Daphne Blue and that refin above is just calling my name.
