Th Official Fender Musicmaster Bass Club

I just added a '73 Musicmaster to my collection. This one is all stock, including the two capacitors giving a very dark but rich sound.

Presumably I could get an extra scratch plate and pickup + wiring harness and swap them around to taste - I'd just need to attach the bridge earth? I' like to check out some alternative pickups out of interest but don't want to do anything to the stock internals.

It sounds lovely - strung with LaBella flats 49-109

You absolutely can do that. I’ve considered the same on my Musicmaster. Mine’s lightly modified and I love the sound, but have considered building up a spare pickguard I have to try some other pickup options just for fun. Not terribly expensive, and easy to undo down the road. If you can do basic soldering it’s easy peasy.

I’ve noticed that the pickup in mine is slightly wonky probably due to the pickguard shrinking. So I’ll get a new and keep the original which has a split so it’s kind of delicate anyway.

This is my 1978 Musicmaster Bass with the original case. I've taken care of it and it is in nice shape, but it is heavy for a short scale. It's a good bass, but I think I would almost rather have a new American Mustang bass.

I have a '78 in Black. My 1st non-rental bass, I had the same case but it's gone. In recent years I swapped out the pick-up for a Nordstrand and changed the knobs. At the time, my dad bought me the bass because I,
