I don't get personal with very many people at all on the internet. I mentioned somewhere a while back that I took a break from the internet and that stands true. I kinda dipped out on TalkBass and youtube bass content for over a year. And all of a sudden Im posting like crazy seemingly around the clock. lol Lots of heavy stuff went down in addition to the break. My wife has been very ill. She had open heart surgery for the second time a couple weeks ago. The weeks leading up to that surgery were crazy . Many hours of that time was me sitting in her room in the hospital spamming TalkBass while I was waiting for her to wake up from a surgery or just trying to make it through the next challenge. I have two teenage daughters that do summer theater and I I work a full 40 hours a week. It's been a ride. She has one more surgery on Friday. Its not a scary one and they think this starts moving the needle in the right direction. lol I'm very hopeful for the first time in a very long time.

Re-Joining the community again after being gone so long. It's really helped my mental health. We have a very cool place here to hang out and have fun. Scope some killer basses with some very cool people. Fun but civil posting. Super low drama. lol It's really carried me through the last month and I'm so thankful to all of you. I'm just an oldschool pothead that loves playing bass and listening to music. I've always felt right at home here. You can get lost in so many places in TalkBass. lol Thanks so much! \m/

Yeah, we sure do have a cool thing here buddy. It's because of folks like you that make this place what it is. Thanks for sharing with us what's going on. TalkBass has been a relief like that for me too over the years. Heck, I stopped playing bass 16 years ago but still spend time here daily.
Keep on keepin on buddy.

This! Echoing a separate discussion on here, I find that TalkBass is an antidote to the insanity of true social media, with more genuine dialogue and connection compared with the drama of spam-and-troll-laden commercial algorithm-based 'social media'. A curated community of people who have a shared common interest, who come from a shared desire of being supportive, as is our most basic role in music itself. A couple of summers ago my wife was going through a lot with major surgeries as well, one related to cancer, and I found that having TalkBass to distract and support in those times was really nice. It's a cool thing here. Hope you are doing better.

I hear you. My daughter is in the hospital right now, getting an IV as we speak. I've been living here with her for the past week. I appreciate the TB community - I check in all the time and there's always something new and interesting. Sometimes it's just a needed distraction, sometimes a reminder that we're all in this boat together, going through what it means to be human.
Best wishes for your wife's health and healing.

For 20 years now I've been browsing and posting to this forum just about daily. It's different from any other internet community I've ever seen.

It's not a social media site that invariably gravitates towards polarizing subjects. It's not a product or brand forum; those are mainly people complaining about issues or deficiencies with something they recently purchased and then disappearing forever once they solve their problem, or else sticking around because they think it's fun to gripe and start arguments.

This is a community of like-minded people discussing thoughts and experiences about a broadly defined common interest. It is also ruthlessly moderated, which I think has something to do with its sustained quality. Sort of like Singapore.

I do find that subjects resurface often and these days I avoid topics that I feel I've made every contribution I can already. I'm also a guy in his 50s now, with accompanying interests, whereas I was a guy in his 30s when I found this.

But I do really enjoy the community and I hope to stick around.

It's actually bizarre how good Talkbass is. I sold my old bass in 2018 and kind of stopped lurking here. I think I bought my new bass just so I could come back.

I don't do Facebook or any of the other social media sites, my wife does, and it's just a cesspool of trolls and nasty stuff. No thanks. The news is depressing enough, I don't need more of it. I come here for a break from all that, the shared obsession with bass guitars, and particularly Luthier's Corner, which is the best dedicated bass building forum in existence, IMO, a true brotherhood/sisterhood of like-minded amateur craftsman, with a handful of Pro Luthiers contributing their considerable experience to the mix, cutting through all the chaff.
