Loosely bass related, definitely effects related, so I thought you guys would appreciate this dude.
Mike Silverman, aka That 1 Guy is a classically trained upright bassist turned live-looping, plumbing-wielding, one-man-grindcore-band who plays a freakish instrument of his own concoction called The Magic Pipe.
I encountered him a few years back soon after his first album was released, and since then I've waited patiently for him to come to my little neck of the woods. It was well worth the wait. I loved the first album, but to see him live was just nothing short of awe inspiring.
His new album, The Moon Is Disgusting, shows that he's come a long way in a few years, carving out his own genre and developing his style to a fine art that is truly and absolutely unique. Not only does it bend you mind when you think about how he's creating what you're hearing, but his lyrics are devilishly clever, laced with innuendo and at times poignant remarks, and at other times it's just hilarious rhyming nonsense!
He's currently on tour, still in Oz, but he's heading back to the US soon. I strongly encourage you to go see him, even if it's not your cup of tea, because his show is about more than just the music, it's about breaking down barriers between you and your music. He WILL inspire you, I guarantee it.
