An all time classic

A good friend of mine has one of those rigs he bought new in 1970, with 2 of the powered cabs to go with it.

I always look forward to playing through it when I get up there for our yearly jam

I used to get the fat fuzzies with the Sunn Model T heads
and Sunn 2x15 cabs of the day. In fact a little bit too much
when cranked on '11'' heh heh.

Ampeg V4B, is a dirty beast but heavy.
Laney Klipp, sounds amazing and were used by Black Sabbath in the early days. A friend of mine uses the 60w version with a 2x15" as his bassrigg and it´s loud.
Sunn of course.
An old Orange or Matamp.
Old Acoustic or Peavey can sound pretty cool with one or two 2x15"s.
Marshall superbass, but then don´t bother getting any overdrive pedals just crank it up as Lemmy does it!

I love my "60-watt" Sunns (I put them in quotes because they sound WAYY louder than 60 watts). I got each head for roughly 200 bucks each, and my guitar player always complains i'm too loud (even when I only use one, and he's using a cranked 50 watt amp)!

No a full kit. I sold that head to Sean, it's 60 watts Clean RMS (conservative rating). Sean plays it raging full-on so it's actually putting out closer to it's 200 wattish peak

A Woolly Mammoth should give you ridiculous driving fuzz with anything you plug it into. I use one with a YBA-1 for home use and an old Model T for big Jam space use. The never-serviced-since-new Traynor ('74) has a beautifull warm fuzz all on its own anywhere above 4 or so. The very high gain Woolly Mammoth drives it into a deep and heavy roar. To help the square wave kind of buzzy overtones that the Mammoth can impart I run a LAL Super Oscillo Fuzz 88 in front of it. (That pedal is another story unto itself.) Using this same recipe with the Sunn unleashes an even heavier, darker and far more abusive Monster. Rich, rich tone. Wow, I have to go play now.

Mesa D180 could be an option. This has an interesting cascade between channels that introduces real OD.
Marshall Super Bass (break up point may be too volume restricted - it was for me... just)
Trace V4 is gloriously valvey and has the best pre amp OD I have heard so that works at any volume, and when you push the power tubes that just gets better.

If want the old sound.. there are only two amps to look for in my honest opinion.. Ampeg or Sunn.. nothing else. You will get more bang for your buck with the Sunn stuff.. I use right now a Sunn Spectrum I head.. yes it is only a 40 watt head and two (Fender) Sunn 15 cabs. The speakers are only 80 watts apiece, butt it is very effecient. I only need the amp on 3, the set up is loud enough.. You may want to look at any of the 60 watt Sunn heads, to which there are plenty of, or if want.. get a 2000S head, which is supposed to be 120 watts. In fact.. there are two of them on the Bay now for sale. The amps that everyone fights over are the old ModelT's and 300T's, and of those two, i would get the first generation Model T.

my trace elliot v6 does a fine job. I'd avoid using a woolly mammoth to if you want a vintage tone, they sound terrible unless your after a really deep sounding fuzz. Try and grab a tone bender or brass master clone if you want that geezer butler sound.
