That Didn't Last Long - Stu Hamm goes to Warwick

Looks like he's rocking a Warwick now. I guess the Washburn wasn't the tone in his head after all?

I understand why famous, successful players endorse basses and gear. I also have much respect for Stu Hamm. His 'Kings of Sleep' album is one of the very, very few 'slap' bass recordings I can sit through. Having said that, the more a high-profile player switches brands, the less I respect their gear choices. There are some who 'seem' to switch brands every year. No need to mention names. Personally, I would never choose a bass brand or model because someone famous was an endorser. In fact, I'm more likely to not choose that brand. I thought one of the primary motivations in playing music was to be different, go your own way, put your own spin on things. But that's just the contrarian in me.

M. M. :)

I don't know the guy, but I'm quite close to the statement of blowinblue about music as a stance of individualism and about endorsement, as driving me out of the brand. I went for Ibanez SR because I like that instrument, certainly not for the carnavalesque gallery of guignols one can find on their website, at least in the bass section (don't know the guys, don't listen to that type of disguised fancy haloween I don't know who to name them). They have precisely the reverse effect on me (***?! I won't look like that, let's buy something else :-)).

Check him out.. He's pretty nice... I had never really heard much from him either that I knew was him till a few years back I saw a video on YT of him doing some classical stuff tapping.. It made me look a little deeper and he's a great player ... but yeah I feel you there.. I never buy gear based on an endorsing artist. Usually for me it is because I may have heard WoM from several guys about a certain instrument or actually played/ heard it.. or because it may have features that appeal to me.. an endorsing artist is not even on my radar as far as influencing what I buy.

Stu's sound comes from Stu, and if he's happy with his bass, then so am I. It affects my life in zero ways who he endorses.

Pretty much.. in the bigger scheme of things ..

and what's more, I look at myself and see a guy who's always switching brands. Fender, Music Man, Rickenbacker, Warwick...I'm like the village bicycle myself. Stu Hamm can sign a new endorsement deal every day at breakfast for all I care.

I would never pick a bass because someone famous played or endorsed the brand, and I would also certainly never exclude a bass from consideration because someone famous played or endorsed the brand - that seems equally as silly as the first proposition. Being contrarian for its own sake seems silly to me. Play what you want because you like it yourself, and for no other reasons at all.

I like Stu...

I have Fenders, a Washburn & a Warwick... none are Stu Sigs, and I had some before Stu made them cool...

Looks like an interesting P/U configuration on his Washburn & Warwick - Piezo/Single/MM - probably a nice tone palate...

a Kubicki would be nice too...

Good for U Stu!!!
