Hey fellas (and gals),

I recently bought a Genz Benz GBE 600 off of a fellow TB'er. I finally got it into the studio the other night, wanting to use it as a DI. I plugged it in, got it situated and when I played, I got this horribly distorted/overdrivey sound. I couldnt figure out what was wrong, nothing seemed to fix it. I tried all the knobs, output level, master volume, gain, etc...SO, is it the unit itself? Or am I doing something wrong?...and if I am, what is it?

May be something wrong with the actual unit or you may have had a "post-eq" chiclet button pushed in or something.

That would apply whatever gain settings you had combined with any eq settings all feeding through the DI and going to the board. Combine that with the board gain set too high and it's a recipe for a mess. I'd start with checking the gain settings both on the amp and on whatever it's plugged into or out of along the way.

Either you're doing something wrong - using too much pre gain, or too much gain at the other end, or there's something wrong somewhere... I've owned both the GBE 600 and the NeoPak 3.5, and found them both to have excellent sounding DIs - in either pre or post EQ settings...

Have you checked the battery in your bass if it's an active bass?

Does the rest of the amp sound ok?

Are you operating it in the pre or post eq mode?

Was it shipped to you and was it well padded in the shipping box (or a factory foam padded box)?

This should be easy to sort out with a little patience.

Thanks guys...Ill check it out.

Agedhorse - The battery was brand new. I havent gotten a chance to check the amp through a cab yet, but I will soon. It was in Pre I believe, but I could be mistaken. Aand it was shipped with adequate padding. If I have any other questions Ill be sure to shoot them your way. Thanks for the help!
