That Metal Show- VH1 Classic

So I recently got VH1 Classics on my digi cable service, and over Memorial Day weekend, I watched a maraton of this show, and have caught a few episodes over the past week. All I can say is that this is one of the wittiest, most entertaining (campy at times), cool music shows around. It's fun. It almost reminds me of how MTV used to be fun back in the 80s and early 90s. Anyone else dig this show?

Sometimes its not bad. Like the show where Glenn Hughes was on there as their guest celebrity player.
Mostly, though, its uncomfortably geeky. Sometimes seeing how bad some of the older metal dudes look these days is uncomfortable. There's also a lot dudes on there saying that they're really not advocating Satanism, violence, etc. despite the fact that their songs, shows, merchandise, etc. are full of Satanism, violence, etc. Tom Araya of Slayer is particularly skilled at doing this with a straight face. He smirks a lot but I haven't caught him winking on camera yet. Sort of like a car salesman that you've just caught adding fees back to the price at the last minute.
To me, it's kind of like participating in a reunion conversation with 3 aging metalhead friends who never grew out of it. IMO, That Metal Show will do when nothing else is on.

I'm not a metal head, but I dig it. They have guest bassist to take them to commercial from time to time. They are a little clueless when it comes to music history and totally overlook how important and great a band Living Colour is, but it's nice to see a couple guys discussing music on TV for a bit.

Yeah, Im not a metal head either.... but they do feature/talk about alot of bands I like, such as Rush, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, etc. Im not so much into Pantera, Slayer, or the harder stuff. More classic metal here.

I hate it.

They all as people really look like they'd be better in the background of a Jersey Shore episode. I don't watch that either.

Stump the Trunk is a Epic Fail segment Eddie is an idiot he didn't even know Lemmy uset to be a roadie for Hendrix? Really you call yourself a Metal head and yet, you don't know the background of a Metal figurehead who is sitting less then ten feet away from you that your interviewing? Yeah good show.

Now to mention they had Corey Taylor interviewed and on that episode that Metal Show proudly admitted they stunk up Corey Taylor's dressing room at a gig by farting. Corey thought it was funny so I guess it was but, still bragging about that on television? It's a music show not Conan.

These guys are idiots I can tell they love Metal but, they aren't in touch with Modern metal bands at all. The big four are constantly brought up along with the 80's power ballad bands, and from time to time Pantera but, they don't ever ever bring in a young up and coming band to talk with like System of a Down, Demon Hunter, Bobaflex, KoRn or hard rockers like Shine Down, Kopek, PUi, StainD, or maybe a punk band that helped influence Metallica and hundreds of other Metal bands The Misfits?

I'm not talking about the bassist or whoever I'm talking about the enitre band in studio. Save the guest musicians, the interviewies, and the Throwdown segment the show is crap.

I wouldn't let my dog watch it. The times I have seen it it was because my bandmates outvoted me. Lesson learned? Move practices to the garage and not in the house!
That way we can go out to eat.

In the show's defense, It's on vh1 Classic. The hosts have said more than once that they'd love to interview a younger band, but the network focuses on classic, old school rock n' roll. All around, an entertaining show!

I happen to like it, but I do agree that some contemporary bands would be nice. But hey, VH1 Classic is all we got! They always air cool documentaries and stuff, like Song Remains the Same, Beyond the Lighted Stage, think I even saw a doc on The Who there a while ago...

Im glad they arent in touch with Modern Metal. I don't like Modern Metal. I grew up listening to the classics, and call me and old grouch, but I like to watch a bunch of old guys like me, talk about old metal. And watch a bunch of old 70s and 80s metal "gods" talk to them. If I wanted to be modern and cool, Id'... well... watch something else...

It's a great show for those of us that cut our teeth playing in the 70's and 80's, and that last connection Mtv networks has to real music. I love the kiddies condescending something they haven't watched. Too many false statements posted by the youth. Glen Danzig was on for the 3rd time a few weeks back....that is about as Misfits as it gets.

I like the concept of the show, but i dont think that their intended audience is right. They interview all of these old-school bands like motorhead and they wear slipknot shirts?? Like really?? I get your trying to appeal to both new and old generation metal heads but i dont think combining them is the best way.

IMO combining old and new metal is like trying to combine two different genres entirely. I would keep that metal show but also make a spinoff show called THAT NEW METAL SHOW, or THAT NUMETAL SHOW and make that show focus on all the newer metal bands that are coming out. Keep the two seperate and quit trying to lump the two generations together to get more fans and viewers. I would watch the **** outa that NUMETAL show, but that metal show isnt my cup of tea. ;)
