Mostly, though, its uncomfortably geeky. Sometimes seeing how bad some of the older metal dudes look these days is uncomfortable. There's also a lot dudes on there saying that they're really not advocating Satanism, violence, etc. despite the fact that their songs, shows, merchandise, etc. are full of Satanism, violence, etc. Tom Araya of Slayer is particularly skilled at doing this with a straight face. He smirks a lot but I haven't caught him winking on camera yet. Sort of like a car salesman that you've just caught adding fees back to the price at the last minute.
To me, it's kind of like participating in a reunion conversation with 3 aging metalhead friends who never grew out of it. IMO, That Metal Show will do when nothing else is on.

That's pretty much the impression I get when I watch the show. I think it's cool that there are some dudes talking about metal, but uncomfortably geeky is an excellent way to put it.

Regarding Araya, from what I understand, he's actually a practicing Catholic. It used to be really fashionable to use a lot of Satanic imagery and lyrical content in older metal (and even hard rock), but I think that Glen Benton and some black metal bands from Scandinavia are the only ones who ever took it seriously...and even that may be a stretch.

Okay they didn't bring it up an audience member did but, it's juvienile the way he's smiling and holding his hand up like a kindergardner.

Also if we we're talking about 80's Misfits yes Danzig would be a Misfits but, since he's Samhain's frontman nowadays Jerry only is the face of the Misfits him and his Devil lock.

Also I admit to being young and not watching it very much but, I like more of the classic than modern metal however how many of the original classic metal bands are still around? Not alot atleast not enough. So they should bring in the late 90's early 2000's metal bands as they in music industry terms are old now. In another ten years they'll be classic metal so you wanna listen to them now or then?
Because wether we like it or not Nickleback will soon be on VH1C along with Limp Bizkit in a few years so hopefully if VH1C brings in the actual good modern metal and hard rock bands we won't have to watch "Rollin'" and "Insert Nickleback song here".

This is gonna be our future as metal heads if That Metal Band doesn't let the new blood in every now and again. Not like every other season!

I'm not mad at you just what you said. I take offense that all modern metal is crap. Actually it's not all bad just most of the hit of todays so called Heavy Metal bands that you proably think is bad. I hate that misconcepotion I'd take old Metallica over the new. Black Sabbath over Linkin Park. However as far as modern metal I'll take Sixx A.M. over Motely Crue and Slipknot over Dio fronted Black sabbath (His solo stuff I'd even take over his Sabbath stint).
But, if you put a gun to my head and said which is better Modern or classic metal I honestly couldn't choose.

Metal is far from dead in the underground. However noone can beat Sabbath, Megadeth, or Motorhead.

Metal Evolution yes it's better. No middle man just the people who matter telling a story of how that genre of metal came to be and offering insight to where it may be headed. That's what I love. Leave the lists and crap out in metal the only list you need to know is the Big 4 anyway.

For sure, and he knows what Metal is. He wouldn't be bringing up Steven Tyler or Sammy Hagar on every episode.

Old Metal, New Metal, Nu-Metal, whatever. They need to change the name of the show to the That Rock Show or That Hard Rock Show, but That Metal Show? No.

No they shouldn't change the name.

That Metal Show is straight to the point and relevant to what Sam Dunn knows.
That Rock Show is too broad a name as everybody thinks their a freakin' rock star nowadays from the Biebers to the Jonas Brothers to the rap artists.

I believe although it is called That Metal Show, they state right in the opening of every show that it is the place for all things Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. They say it every episode. So talking about Tyler and Hagar fits with the format. Also, I would think that if new metal fans were that adamant there would already be a show. Metal nowdays is much more polarizing than classic metal, which had noticeable blues influence. I'd bet money that such a show has already been talked about in a few boardrooms and has been deemed unprofitable. I doubt That Metal Show would even be on if not for Eddie Trunks minor fame as a radio host and his large network of connections with bands such as Judas Priest, Metallica, etc.

I've listened to TMS on satellite radio a couple of times, and watched a little of it on TV.

It made me feel incredibly old. The bands I listened to in my younger days, the wild screaming rock-and-roll party-hard dudes, are all old gray-haired/balding fat guys, that is if they are still alive. So--Aerosmith is recording/releasing another record--those guys are what, 65+?? Oh wait, in a few years I'll be creeping up on 60 years old too...geez....

But one thing that Eddie Trunk mentions periodically, and I agree with: the appeal of metal/hard rock has really diminished. Kinda ties into the whole decline of live music-as-an-art-form which has been discussed on TB from time to time. Sure, there's still kids shredding at Gutiar Center, but the heydey of hard rock and metal has long since passed.

So, this is totally derailing but...

I really don't think there is a "decline of live music-as-an-art-form" happening. Decline of the "rock star" maybe but maybe that's a good thing. I mean we're barely over a half century into an era where musicians could get rich and famous by being musicians and we've already decended into a pop music crapathon of hacks that are just in it for the money.

And on top of that, it does seem that every so often someone or something comes along and really shakes up popular culture, I mean REALLY shakes it up like Beatles or things like Hip-Hop, Nirvana, Napster, Youtube, Les Paul's Electric guitar...or heck Beat Poets, Surrealism etc., etc.

So, maybe we're just in a transition period and something somewhere has to happen to shift everything...and maybe that thing has already happened and most won't realize it until 10 years from now and we all look back and realize that every musician around is doing what they learned from the same person/instrument/genre, know-what-I- mean? People still love music and love going to see live music as far as I can tell.

EDIT: Whoa that was kind of a jump from my previous Sammy Hagar comments, huh?

Really you call yourself a Metal head and yet, you don't know the background of a Metal figurehead who is sitting less then ten feet away from you that your interviewing? Yeah good show.

Now to mention they had Corey Taylor interviewed and on that episode that Metal Show proudly admitted they stunk up Corey Taylor's dressing room at a gig by farting. Corey thought it was funny so I guess it was but, still bragging about that on television? It's a music show not Conan.

These guys are idiots I can tell they love Metal but, they aren't in touch with Modern metal bands at all. The big four are constantly brought up along with the 80's power ballad bands, and from time to time Pantera but, they don't ever ever bring in a young up and coming band to talk with like System of a Down, Demon Hunter, Bobaflex, KoRn or hard rockers like Shine Down, Kopek, PUi, StainD, or maybe a punk band that helped influence Metallica and hundreds of other Metal bands The Misfits?

I'm not talking about the bassist or whoever I'm talking about the enitre band in studio. Save the guest musicians, the interviewies, and the Throwdown segment the show is crap.

I wouldn't let my dog watch it. The times I have seen it it was because my bandmates outvoted me. Lesson learned? Move practices to the garage and not in the house!

Basically the rule of the show is, is that if the network (VH1 Classic) wouldn't show the video then they most likely won't have the band on the show. I doubt VH1 Classic will be showing Korn videos anytime soon

You never know. That's the scary part the unknown.

That's why TMS should showcase newer bands it'll opemn the older viewers up to where Metal is right now and a hint at were it's going. TMS shouldn't totally cut the old bands that's our past it brought us were we are today. However those who live in the past are fools change is inevitable. Besides keeping the youth out of the show is hurting Metal. You want proof? How many TVs do you know that showcase metal? I can name only one and TMS is that one.

I totally agree, there is nothing on this show that has to do with modern metal. Corey Taylor is about as close as they get, Slayer yeah, but all their music sounds the same as it did 20 years ago. Sometimes they have some relevant
news but not much. It seems to me as a bunch of 80's dudes that can't move on, which to me seems so typical of any 80's fan no matter what genre. And they seem to know very little about 80's metal when pressed by the ones they interview.
