just wanted to post a quick update on the hideous claw.

- the body is now completely carved.
- the first coat of gloss/sealer has been put on.
- the individual bridges are almost done being machined.
- The inlay has been changed to "Hideous Claw" going across 7-9 frets. Inlay material is Acrylester - a kind of luminescent white with red veins/splotches going through it.
- A locking secondary body part is being built for the bottom of the bass... think "Voltron".

The whole thing is uglier than sin.

I venture to say that the hideous claw may potentially be the largest single neck electric bass to date. The body dwarfs my conklin 9-string. I'm not kidding. I am doing pushups in preparation. :)

Before you guys ask - I cannot post pictures of the body. Not til it's finished. :D

Completetion date.... Probably not by the end of the year - most likely January or February.

hahahaha - anybody can hate it at anytime. But yes, I don't want to spoil the surprise.

wow, looks completely insane! (in a good way)

question about the fanned frets, does it take any time for you to become accustomed to it outside of normal technique (which i hear takes only a few minutes to get used to) ala tapping and chording? i just think my fingers would have a hard time adjusting for chording especially

defeldus - the fan on this bass (and my 9) isn't too dramatic. With so many strings and only a few inch spread, it's really not that different to play at all. I would imagine the same 3" across 5 strings would take a little more time to get used to. Those who have tried my bass for even a minute, haven't had a problem with the fan.

For those of you counting, it's actually 47 lams. 4 are kinda hard to see because we miscalculated the width we needed for the neck (by a .10 of an inch!) so we "doubled" some of the thin stringers with a purpleheart/paduak combo - however they just look a little bit thicker than the other lines.
