The automatic implication that gear is better quality if it's made in the US is the key here. It's just plain ridiculous. My post just showed that arrogance in reverse. Yes, if my post was serious I'd say it was stupid too.

We have a lot more in common than you may be aware of. We are just more sensitive to knocking other countries gear while promoting our own.

I'm sorry if it hits a nerve that side but every time we foriegers hear theses comments it hits a nerve here too, and I believe the audience on this forum is an international one.

I've edited your quote to get to just a few points

If someone answers a request for info, by another TalkBass member, with a bunch of "just make sure it's American" propaganda well that would just be wrong and stupid and have no place here.
But don't confuse that with, for example,my comments above stating that the MIA G&L's have a list of manufacturing changes recently and they are even better than before. I had to make a point to say I was talking about the MIA line because they also have a foreign made line. Which in the case of G&L,has some lower quality traits to make it cheaper. Patriotism was the furthest thought from my mind at the time.

I've seen very few posts of people who say EVERYTHING that's MIA is always the best that's offered.

People with blind Patriotism are the ones missing out on some of the great foreign made products avalible to the bass world.

Knocking other countries gear while promoting their own...Just look at the recent threads about Fender quality issues, most of it is Americans mad about sub par MIA quality. How many times have I read someone stating their satisfaction in a recent MIM bass too.

Definately an international group...that's why your Broad Brush Approach is considered to be Over the top and in fact just as Wrong as the point you and I are agreement on.

we are on the same wave legnth. The points I was trying to make were only about the blind guide type. I understand that the MIA's are in most cases the more premium item for many factors.

From your last post I kind of got the impression that you may have thought my sarcasm was aimed at yourself. That's not the case just be be clear. My post wasn't aimed at anyone but just a general stir. I admit it was a stir but not in malice. Rather to get this issue out in the open.

The hard thing on here is it can so easily be taken the wrong way. Nothing I've ever said on here is meant to be a real dig. It's always in humor or help.

Aussies have a humor a little like english, it can be very dry and often if not face to face you'd want to choke us to death.

I'm always a promoter of US made gear. I've had a bit of a bad experience with a dear one but almost everything I have is flawless. Eden is a perfect example. They are mega expensive here but I believe the quality is worth it. We pay 2-3 time what you guys do so I am putting my money where my mouth is!

I hope you do see what I say as sincere,

I think each one has it's own distinct sound. I think the reason I'm more likely to pick a G&L or a Music Man is because Fender parts are so easy to find that I could just as easily order some WD or Warmoth parts and build virtually any P-bass or J-bass that pops into my head. And let's face it-- there still isn't much of an aftermarket for EBMM or G&L.

That "El Cabronita" bass, and the new "Dimension" bass do have my interest, though...

Obviously a quick and dirty rule that if a guitar is made in the USA it's better and if it's china it's probably crap is just a quick and dirty rule. The real point is not the country but WHO is doing the building. So does that mean that Jens Ritter (Germany) or Jersey Drozd (Spain) turn out crap instruments? Well the money they get for them says otherwise. Does that mean that some of my China Guitars are NOT crap? Sorry they ARE crap!

It's really about the construction being by skilled craftsmen or by cheap low paid labor. As the joke goes a Fender made in Mexico by Mexicans is good but not as good as a Fender made in the USA by Mexicans.

So what was that world class Australian bass company again? Oh that's right. Out of business. And now you've stopped the boat people from landing, you can't compete with SX either. So does that mean there are no skilled luthiers in OZ? Hardly. Talented people show up everywhere.

But to claim credit you have to first DO something. This is not a slam, it is just reality.
