I've got 2 5'ers. My modded Toby with Bartolini xxM45c quad coil pickups and a Bart 18v preamp.
And my Lakland 55-01 that's in the shop right now getting a set of Nordstrand Big Singles pups and a battery added to the NTMB in there already.

Old Boy #12 (not a bad bass though. Squiers: they're not quite fender, but they're definitely underrated)

Neener #17 (I've had a chance to play the MIA deluxe active jazz V before. I thought it was very nice! The pickups are hot hot hot, and the B string is way tighter than any other 5 string fender I've ever played, MIM or MIA)

Here's my RKS Symbass, my Line 6 705 Variax and the now departed Status Groove 5 Stringer, my first 5 string bass.

right here: just got my 5 string White with pearloid white pick-guard and matching headstock with maple fretboard.....MM Stingray5 HH.
I started playing bass somewhere just short of a decade ago on a MIM Fender Jazz 5'er a few years after that, purchased my Ibanez SR885...and here we are today.

Seriously, there is not a great deal of difference around many of the sounds live and the upright does not sound too authentic either. There are some groovy sounds if recording however.
I bought it as we do some jazz standards as well as some soul and more modern stuff and thought, "Whay, one bass to do all!"
Now they are officially not being made any more, I may gab a Squire 5 String as backup to the RKS and sell the Variax on.

First is the Streamer copy I just got from ivlucas.
Kent Armstrong humbuckers and a OBP-3
There are no words for how big this bass sounds with stainless steel strings on it.
The second is my...ehemm...Wishbass Lobe 5.
I sanded the whole bass bare and refined a lot of the shaping so the bass is smooth and the body lines are now as they should be. Now it is finished in about 6-8 coats of High Gloss Tung Oil, including the fretboard. Then I installed a Fralin passive noise cancelling J-style bridge pickup. This bass sounds as crystal clear as I could have ever imagined any bass to sound. With my amp eq'd flat, this thing is punchy with just the right amount of low end and transparent high. It has been my main recording bass for the past year.

1. Lava Pearl fretted Music Man Bongo with two humbuckers and piezo bridge. White Ice pickguard. Born on April 7/05.
2. Desert Gold fretless Music Man Bongo with two humbuckers and piezo bridge. Python pickguard. Born on January 12/06.
Cons? Not a single one. I love these basses.
