The Rules: Any bass made from January 1st 1980 to December 31st 1990 (covering both gregorian and popular decade reckoning) will count. May be traditional or bizarre.

Concerning the 1990 in the 80's:

According to popular reckoning, the 1980's was 1980 through 1989 (this would mean the calendar started in year 0)

According to the gregorian calendar (which we ostensibly follow) the 1980's would've actually been 1981-1990 (this would mean the calendar started in year 1, which makes a lot more sense. And since the 80's were the 1980th decade since the start of the gregorian calendar, it too would start with a 1....1981)

nope, I just had a brain fart.

Popular reckoning declares the 80's as 1980-1989. This would mean that the calendar would've started in the year, 0, which makes no sense.

The gregorian calendar (which we ostensibly follow) since it started in the year 1, would make the 80's (being the 1980th decade recorded by the gregorian calendar) 1981-1990.

This is kinda cool to me for a personal reason: Since I was born in february of 1980, it means that I can lay claim to being a product of either the 70's, if I want to think gregorian, or a product of the 80's if I want to think using popular reckoning. Frankly, I vacillate to suit the mood.

Two from the 80's. My Charvel, the original Jackson pickups were pretty weak, replaced them with Seymour Duncans, the ones with the dip switches on the front. It actually sounds pretty good. And a Warwick Nobby Meidel, headless basses are so 80's! It's a beauty, with the original Bill Lawrence passive pickups, a unique looking and excellent sounding instrument.

AMERICAN BASSES book says the Peavey Rudy Sarzo bass was started in 1989, so I suppose it qualifies, just barely!

1983 Precision Elite II

I have an '81 Vantage Performer VA900B series. It was my primary bass for 23 years. Now I just bring her out for extra-special occasions. Great solid bass with more tone than on just about any other bass I have ever heard.
