I was thinking the same thing. I would love to see some actual SPL meter results from their shows. I would also love to NEVER attend one of their shows. The insane volume thing is part of the act!

I was happy to see Hanson listed on the Wikipedia site: "1998: Hanson set a record for the loudest crowd at a concert, at 140 decibels, with the decibel meter pinged at the loudest it could go."

That seems to the be the loudest. Hanson is the loudest band ever. Let that sink in.

For me it was The Who. Saw them in Houston playing The Summit, now Joel Osteen's church. I was in the last row at the top and I thought the cement was going to start crumbling, it was so loud.

Personal experience for me was the Ramones at a mid-sized bar. I was in the mosh pit and it was about 10 feet to the backline. No notes, just sound pressure, It was glorious.

Deep Purple was the only band i wore ear plugs for...backstage. insane volume. the who was crazy loud too. then, of course, are the moments of loudness and pitch that cause a horrific physical reaction. i've never experienced the fabled brown note but i have had the unfortunate opposite experience that caused me to run and throw up backstage. thank you theodore tobias nugent.

I know this is undocumented, but in 1984 I saw Edgar Winter play a club only big enough for a couple hundred people. From the sound of it, I think they used their stadium PA. During the Frankenstein flying saucer effect, I almost lost vision.

Did some digging and found this photo of the Grand Circus' marquee from the freakishly loud balcony destroying Motörhead gig I was at.

I'm LOL-ing at the spelling. Moterhead. Haha.

The gig was in Dec '84, and not in '86 as I had recalled. Which would have been the No Remorse tour. It was the last show there and the theater was abandoned that night, so the marquee remained as you see it in the pic for years after. They didn't even bother to take it down. Just locked up and left. Moterhead. Lol.

Mercyful Fate was beyond hilarious that night. Can't remember anything about Exciter.

Exactly what I said. The US keyboard doesn't have an umlaut option, so its represented by typing the letter with a trailing e.
ö = oe
ü = ue
Etc.

So, since Lemmy named the band "Motörhead," the only way to properly type it on your US keyboard is "Motoerhead."

For an actual example, google "Einstürzende Neubauten," a German band with the umlaut in their name. You'll notice that it's often spent on album covers as "Einstuerzende" instead of the umlaut U.

Diacritics have a purpose, it just happens that Lemmy thought it looked cool and stuck 'em on. They actually change the way you pronounce the letter, they're not just for effect.

I was there! It was outdoors at the Bluesfest. If they were shockingly loud, I never noticed. I guess you had to be at the right spot.
On a related note, that was my girls (6&4 at the time) first concert, like Kiss was my first concert in '77.
For the loudest concert I ever attended, hometown bar with a hometown guitarist formerly of Exciter (he went back later). This band was called Blackstar.
