Just found this posted on Gainesville, FL Craigslist... Anybody familiar with this rig? I play passive, so would have to use a pre-amp, I guess.
I own the B450, so not so different in output, but I like the twin 15s!

I just read on the unofficial Acoustic site that "406 (wide) cabs are few and far between and largely trashed." those look pretty well maintained from the pic.
I don't remember if I already asked this or not here, bad memory. Anyways I have a acoustic control corporation 140 head. There are a couple recommended places here in Grand Rapids, Mi I can take it to. I am not sure that they specialize in acoustic. Think they repair all amps. It was given to me long time ago. I don't have a cab yet to plug it into and don't remember if it was working or not when I did have a cab? Anyways I was wondering is there some places that specialize in these amps that I could send it to for repair? Well after I figure out if it is working or not. I plan on getting an acoustic 410 cab in the next few months here. If it is not cost effective to repair the head, if it needs it, I will probably pick up a B600 head for it. Guess I am just worried that if it needs repair and I send it somewhere that they don't work on a lot of acoustic products that the repair they do may change the vintage acoustic sound?
Just remember that the old Acoustic stuff isn't the same as the newer version, although they have tried to blur market the lines a little.
The B-600H is a great head and the B-410 is nice if you double them up. I own a lot of the new Acoustic stuff, and I wouldn't bother with the B-115s though if you're gonna pump a lot of power and volume.
I feel the B-115s are great at lower volume and smaller venues. That's how I use mine.
NOTE: the MAY be a huge price drop - it seems to be happening right now - so keep your earballs open.

The amp in that picture is a model 300 power amp. Many old Acoustic amps have outputs on the back to run a slave power amp to push more cabinets. That's what that was designed for.
Stock, a 406 cabinet was not rated to handle the full output of one of those amps. They were only rated for 200 watts, and the 300 will push more than that into a 4-ohm load. I think the power ratings on old Acoustic cabinets were conservative and I know a number of people have said they run 370s into 406s, but just be aware that it's not designed to work with that amp. They were generally packaged with the 220 or 450 bass heads, which are lower power.
However, it appears that the speakers in that cab have aluminum dust caps, which means they are probably not the original speakers. The original speakers (which sound phenomenal in those cabs) had white dust caps (sometimes darkened to tan by now). So, if the speakers were replaced, it could possibly handle the extra power of the 300. But, I would certainly want to know exactly what is in the cabinet now.
At $750 for the rig, I think it's overpriced. The 300 is a cool-looking amp but at this point it's more a curiosity, since it doesn't have the tone-shaping preamp that's a big part of the desirability of a 370 or whatever. You can get an equally powerful and more reliable new power amp for not much money at all. (That amp is probably about 40 years old now and many of those old amps need service, or will.) So if you figure the 300 is not really worth that much, then that is absolute top dollar for the 406, even if it's cosmetically perfect, and for that price I would definitely want the proper white-cap speakers in it, or if something else, it would need to be something hot, like old JBLs or something (which, to be fair, those might be). But I would say that even if the cab is otherwise perfect, and it's the wide version (which it appears to be), you should be able to get that rig for $500 tops.
406s are a bit uncommon, but they're not really that hard to find if you put your mind to it. I've had three of them over the last five years or so.
I just returned my b200 and exchanged it for a b450 ($350) AND put a b600h on layaway ($250) both new in box.
btw if you go to g.c . com they show the "normal" prices and they have a platinum tab with the discount prices, but it's only "find in store" . any ideas on that platinum pricing and what it means?
I'm checking my receipt so I can get a price match on the B450 I purchased a couple of weeks ago. Be nice to recoup some of that money.

I love the B450. Very loud and good power for what I need. Good tone control and a nice clear sound. Literally shakes the walls.
I'm coming from a Fender BXR and it served me well but until I tried some other amps, specifically the Acoustic, I didn't realize how 'muddy' the Fender sounded. When I was shopping I even tried the new Fender Rumble amps, and they sounded muddy as well.
Very impressed with the Acoustic so far.

The 320 has more features and control in the higher frequencies but the 370 just sounds like classic bass magic. I haven't been able even been able to put any pedals in front of it since I picked it up.
I use them so differently that I can't fairly compare them.
