The Acoustic Club

Hey acoustic folks!

My guitar player tells me he has this Acoustic amp his uncle bought many moons ago and tells me we can rehearse with it. The amp in question is an Acoustic Model 210 of which I can't find any info doing a quick google search. The back of the amp has some writing in spanish and says Acoustic control de Mexico.

If you guys could help me solve this mistery I'd greatly appreciate it as I want to find out more about this amp.

Here's some cell phone pictures he sent me. Sorry for low quality

Does that head have a 5 band EQ on the front as well?

It looks like a 120 3rd Gen, but with the Acoustic Control de Mexico perhaps an early 4th Gen that was a transition piece? It looks identical to the 120 except I can't see in your photos if it has a 5 band EQ, and perhaps mis-stamped?

I haven't seen this model before. Someone else should be able to clarify further. Definitely LOOKS like a 3rd gen, but with the Mexican made script that would lean towards 4th Gen Wagner era.

Very strange indeed!

It doe snot have a graphic EQ only Volume and bass mid and high controls as well as a power boost white switch to the right and another one I can't quite read to the far right.

I'll ask for more pictures if needed because these are really bad haha

I have that same head mounted in a combo version. It's called a 118 and it's pretty nice overall. I'll be using it tomorrow for a recording session FWIW. I has the most amazing overdirve when cranked up too!

I s'pose I should post this here...

:( my B220 head went down Sunday. Had used it for practice on Sat. eve and was fine, plugged in for Sunday rehearsal and BAM!....just lot's of buzzing/ screeching. I use this as a back-up for my 150 and was just trying to give it some play time. Did smell a odd ,not quite burning, but toasted maybe is right word. Taking in to tech today. Any thoughts. Glad, in a way, I didn't sell it recently, woulda felt real bad if someone had got it and this happened.

Once fixed though, it's surely being turned loose...will be inthe market for another 150 or maybe a 370.

A quick rundown on the configuration in the picture and the soundcloud demo (bad playing, please forgive me).

I used 3/4" birch plywood and 1/4" deep dados. While I haven't actually weighed it, I believe it is between 50-65#. Horrible workmanship, but it has a character all of it's own. I have not added the customary ports to the inner baffles, nor was there any stuffing in the chambers. The drivers are Eminence BP102's 8Ohm. The cab is wired for 8Ohm and has a thermal capacity of 800W RMS / 1600W peak.

This iteration sounds very dark due to the high cutoff of the BP102. Since then, I have changed the top forward facing driver to a PS10 which brightens the sound immensely. I have also added a bit of foam to the chambers which have improved the quality of the tone coming from it. I will be experimenting with ports and other filler material as well.

The bass when this is on it's side is very deep and full. The core sound does seem to develop better around 20'-30' from the cab in the upright position. The current iteration has a very nice overdrive sound to it and has taken the full power from an Ampeg PF500 and Bassman 100T with no hiccups.

Got my 1968 361pp last year sans power amp with original CV 18" driver, and just got a 1970 360 preamp to go with it. All for about $400. So I brought it all down to the practice room, and took my 1974 Fender J and my 1995 Ken Smith CR-5 out for a spin. Power was provided by one side of an SWR Stereo 800.

UPSHOT: I love this rig how this rig sounds and responds. Should have gotten one thirty years ago.

Hey guys, I got to play a BIG stage with my 320/402 rig tonight and actually turn it up past 2 for a change. Holy cow, it sounded sooooo awesome. At this point, big venues (1000+) usually mean provided backline for us. It's usually stuff like Aguilar DB751's with two 4x10 cabs or an SVT CL and they never fail to disappoint. Even the vintage SVT's kinda suck compared to a cranked up Acoustic Control Corp. rig. It was so great to finally have clarity in the lows, mids, AND highs on a big stage with a rockin' house for a change. Even got a mic on my cab, too. The provided backline stuff actually makes me happy about DI boxes cuz I can't make them sound good.
