The Acoustic Club

I just got a B200 Monday....May I join?
I got it for practice, but she's plenty loud...plenty of juicy tone...and xlr out...I may gig with her.

Also..how did I miss/bypass these things for so long?
Is it just because they're so straight forward/plain/simple looking?

Im wondering...how many of you "passed by or overlooked" these before finally trying them out?
well... those of you who didn't know better?

I've missed a few permutations then.

I know of the olde Acoustic Company, the newer Acoustic GC/MF line which I call Gen-II and the next version that is Acoustic USA/GPG.

Now I DO know of another 'Acoustic' company that makes amps for acoustic gear - but somehow I just dismiss them as a cow of their own and not in the slab-bass amp line at all.
In the original ACC you have different amp "eras". You can think of this sort of like Tweed vs. Brown vs. Blackface vs. Silverface for Fender.

Acoustic Control Generation 1 is from 1967-1971 and includes the classic Powder Blue stuff like the 260 and 360. Gen 2 runs from 1972-1976. In that generation black becomes the dominating color with Powder Blue becoming a trim color. This is the era where the 370/371 is introduced. Gen 3 runs from 1977-1982 and is noted with a change in the numbering scheme and the introduction of entry level equipment (up until this time everything was considered professional grade). Generation 3 was also the time in which ACC introduced a few tube guitar amps.

Generation 4 is noted by the takeover of the Wagner Corporation and another color scheme change. Speaker grilles became gray and the numbering scheme changed again. Generation 5 is another Wagner generation marked by the introduction of the "Collaboration Series" as well as "Tuned-Cylinder" and Karlson style cabinets.

Generation 6 was the Samick ownership of the Acoustic brand. Their amp line was short lived but heavily featured in the "Josie and the Pussycats" live action film.

Generation 7, at this current time, is used to describe both the GC and GPG operations. whether or not GPG will be bumped to Generation 8 when it is finally unveiled to the public is yet to be seen.

Fell in love with the B200 the moment I saw it. Having a DI with the option of adding an ext. cab too!!!!! :bassist:
For myself, the perfect amp for practice/rehearsal/small gigs!!!!

SurferJoe46,

You probably know the drill. Go over to unofficialacousticcorporation message board and see how Harvey, Mark, George, Russ are doing these days. Heck, George (Vetchking) gives his number out over there all of the time and would probably love to talk to you (don't go for the double SVT's quiet so fast) when he's not busting his hunmp on the new USA acoustic.

PlayOn!:)

FWIW, the B20 is going for less than $125 at Invalid Link Removed. or you can have them "price match" at one of the other retailers.

Great price on a fantastic, small amp for practice/low-level jams. Has the "Acoustic" tone in a small package.

Hey Guys,

I just purchased my first Acoustic B200H. I also purchased a GK 410GLX cabinet.

But, I have a question: When my band gigs, we generally dont use amps. Instead we go from guitar/bass-to-DI-to-mixing board, then out to speakers. Can I add the B200H head to that mix and NOT use a cabinet? Will doing that cause damage to the head?

I did search on TB and found some conflicting thoughts on this...

As long as you've got a speaker load on it - I don't think it's a problem at all.

The DI is between the pre- and the final- amp, and the final will be idling if there's no speaker load on it

I've never run an amp open-ended - but I know tube amps can't take it.

The amp will 'see' the load as infinite and I don't think it's gonna hurt

Let's hear from BFM though first.

I think there was a company in the 80s(?) that bought them and it was short lived.

Yes. There may actually have been two or three, and they kept it all going, kinda through about 2003. Something like that. There are even some built in Mexico and Japan.

I have one of the Wagner built versions from the early or mid-1980s. It is a B320 head, with a seven band equalizer and some other more modern features, but it's essentially a 320 with those updates, as far as I can tell. I don't know if it is as well made as the original stuff, but I can say it does just fine even though it has been around for a long time and doesn't seem to have been kept in a closet.
