On this day (April 24) in the year 1915 until 1917 the Ottoman Empire under the Young Turks lead to systematic murder of somewhere from 1.5 to 2 million Armenian people, beginning in the middle of the night, killing many, and sending the survivors to go on the Death March, which was a long march through the Syrian Desert with little to no food or water.
The Armenian Genocide is the first halocaust of the 20th Century. The word "Genocide" was created to describe something in the huge horrible scope that the Armenian Genocide had.
Many countries, including the Turkish Government, don't recognize it as a Genocide yet, but we hope if we get more people to get knowledge on this it can help. Sadly, 90% of your history classes won't teach this.
So please, take 20 minutes out of your day, and read about this horrible tragedy that almost wiped out a people.
