The Awesome Show Off Your Amp Thread!!

Here is my main rig; an SVT-VR, SVT810E, and my Lakland Skyline DJ4. Also shown is the Univox U1246 and a pair of Avatar SB112s. The only amp missing from this picture is my GK MB200 (but it probably wouldn't show up very well anyway, since it's so small ;)).

I love this rig! :)

I'll eventually order some of that 70s grill cloth from FlipTops and recover the SVT810E to more closely match the SVT-VR. It seems like it'd be a fun afternoon project.

The 5500 is a two Channel Amp....no problems here

Don't believe so... Invalid Link Removed The text indicates that they took a 3500 and boosted the power output to 500 watts. My initial comments were based on a quick review of the manual on-line which I can't seem to open right now.

The HA5000 and HA7000 heads have dual power amps, the HA5500 only has one...so as BassmanPaul warned future problems are possible...

Glockenklang lust satisfied, it's a Quattro 4 ohm cabinet.

That's what I thought and that's how I run the two cabs. Thanks

But it's not a dual power amp head...one power amp, two jacks, 4 ohms minimum (combined).

I still can't get the manual pdf to open, but here's a photo I found on the web..

Compare that to this FS ad from TalkBass which shows an HA5000. The dual power amp heads have additional controls on the front (crossover frequency (if one chooses to biamp) and balance for adjusting the relative output of the two power amps). Note that there are four speaker jacks on the back, two for each power amp. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=662601

WHOOPS!!!! My mistake... I was thinking of the 5000/7000 series. So I guess the 5500 is looking for trouble at that impedence.

New rig i got for christmas. Thinking i might build a small rack setup, probably just a rack case with the Peavey head, tuner (if i can find a decent one!) and power conditioner.

Cool...Merry Christmas!!! About the tuner...I think that there are a number of comments about a couple newer pedal style tuners in the MarkBass Club thread that make rack tuners all but obsolete...one is a Korg and I forget the other one...

What is the purpose of the patch cord, if you don't mind me asking?

on some old ampegs and fenders when you plug somthing into imput 1 on one channel imput 2 on the same channel becomes a output wich some people like to take a patch cable and plug into chanell 2 and blende the signals

i take it too far with my bassman. bass imput one has my bass then i take the patch from bass imput 2 (wich is now a output) into normal imput 1 then i take a regular cable from imput 2 (wich is now a output) and plug into the pa

Thanks for explaining that. I've never been good at describing what it does. I just saw a guy on YouTube do it and it sounded cool. If you've got two channels, may as well bridge them. ;)

I cleaned the room with some of our amps in it today so I'll probably take a new picture. I also have my MB200 at the house now so it can be included in the photo.

....

Only if the signals are in phase. Some amps have unequal numbers of stages between input and the power amp so the signals could be out of phase by the time the signal gets to the mixing point.

I do this on my Bugera 1960 head...the normal channel does most of the work and a hint of the bright channel adds some bite.

Thanx! Its a great sounding amp. I actually went out to a few music stores today and managed to round up a gator 4-space rack and a Korg DTR-1000. Workin great so far. Im just not sure whether i should simply stick with my plain old power strip (which is about 5 years old) or get a rackmount powerstrip like from furman or Goose Juice.

Interesting. I was unaware of that potential issue. I really like how it sounds with my VR so I guess I'm fortunate in that sense.

Here is a picture I took of the gear room after I cleaned it up and tried organizing it a bit better.

Gear shown in the photo:

Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones
Ampeg SVT-VR
Univox U1246
GK MB200
Ampeg SVT810E
Avatar SB112 (x2)
Audio Technica AT2020 LDC mic for recording

Peavey Valveking 100
Peavey 412 cab

Behringer powered mixer (PMP1280S, I believe)
Seismic Audio SA-155.2 mains

The PA is primitive and about as cheap as they come but it sounds surprisingly good. We used it last year for an unplugged show in a Chinese food restaurant basement and it worked pretty well, though it was only an acoustic guitar and two vocal mics going through it. I didn't run my bass through it because the speakers aren't the best at reproducing bass. It helped that we were in a room small enough to be carried by my old Avatar B212. Now we use it for backing tracks while jamming (drums or songs to play over) and when practicing with a singer.
